Cost Basis

Hello Folks,

I am new to RSUs&tax related stuff. On my 1099 supplement, E-Trade reported cost basis as 0 on all my transactions.

Can i know how do i calculate the cost basis?

I have some shared vested(first year) in 2023 and they are converted to AVGO and some cash during the acquisition.

You have to download the supplement doc off E*Trade.com. All correct cost basis is on there.

If you are still at BC, check the personalfinance chat. there is a multi-month discussion on this topic and spreadsheets to help you calculate the basis

If something goes wrong, will you say people at layoffs.com told me I should do it this way?

I had the same issue, the Etrade file transfer put all of the sold ESPP and RSUs at $0 as well. I downloaded the 2023 Stock Plans Supplemental Statement from Etrade, look at the Adjusted Gain (Loss) column. Most of my values were there and I adjusted each line item in Turbo Tax. I also followed hickeng above to through step by step where to find my documents and each of my stock plan release confirmations.

ETrade sc--wed all VMware employees over. Widespread issue. Other responses here apparently were oblivious to this and filed their taxes wrong. But they think they did it correctly. Or they were not employees.

Someone made a script to help calculate the correct cost basis:

This, a layoff site, is really not the right platform for this. :) Just saying.
