Because life is viewed as a self-absorbed transactional journey. No concern that they may actually have much more than they truly deserve (because they're not as amazing as they think they are). Lack of self awareness? Arrested development? Not enough attention growing up? Look at me everybody, I jockey for the "richest man" in the world - not as impressive as they think! Other than when they're surrounded by like minded people...
