Broadcom execs say VMware price, subscription complaints are unwarranted

Broadcom has made controversial changes to VMware since closing its acquisition of the virtualization brand in late November. Broadcom executives are trying to convince VMware customers and partners that they'll eventually see the subscription-fueled light. But discontent remains, as illustrated by industry groups continuing to urge regulators to rein-in what they claim are unfair business practices.

For once, they're kinda right.

Big business took advantage of us for years and got crazy discounts.
We're just asking worth now. But we're also "making it cheaper" for those that go all-in. Not sure it's actually cheaper, but it's still good value. And that's fair.
May blow up a few mom'n'pop shops, but they don't pay the bills and we're not a charity.

As for subscription ... I prefer to buy my cars outright, but the world is moving to a rental/lease model. We're just late to Adobe's party.

The flawed logic is.
Customer paid 100 for perp 3 years ago and 20 for SnS. So 1x100 + 20x3 = 160 over the period. So don't expect a SnS renewal of 20, expect (160/3) = 53 per annum now. That's a 206% increase.

Its flawed as that argument only works if the customer was to buy new again, the idea of perp was you could pay SnS for 4/5/6/7+ after the initial purchase.

More concrete evidence that Pat and the BOD were & are entirely
incompetent at execution.

And this bell end is going to save Intel?

You can find releases as far back as 2017/2018 with Pat saying VMware was going
to be a Subscription company.

More concrete evidence that Pat and the BOD were & are entirely incompetent at execution. Good at talking about abstract things, but couldn't actually complete it. Much like all the people who have been elevated to leadership positions (management & technical).

Enterprise tech slingers want to see what Hock Tan can get away with – and replicate it
https://www.theregister.com/2024/04/05/the_world_is_watching_broadcom/

"The Register has been told of bills rising by 500 or 600 percent and read accounts of license costs leaping from $17,000 to $470,000, and $8 million to $100 million. Your vulture here even heard of an org that thinks returning to bare metal could be cheaper than new VMware licenses."

LOL

“Broadcom has made controversial changes to VMware since closing its acquisition of the virtualization brand in late November. “

You can find releases as far back as 2017/2018 with Pat saying VMware was going to be a Subscription company. That fact that they were slow and clumsy to market doesn’t suddenly mean that any of this was a Broadcom decision.

"The Six Five - Insider Edition" interview just highlights that 'VMware cloud leadership' is pure fantasy, because we were late to market and had a disjointed GTM approach.

So, HT has a long rambling explanation but fails to convince anyone that AVGO will be a leader now that they have combined their hardware with VMware software. Total BS

"Sylvain Cazard is just another Hock Tan puppet"

Add "The Six Five - Insider Edition" hosts Daniel Newman and Patrick Moorhead to the HT shill list. These "Industry Analysts" used to be credible. But this interview is pitiful.

If there's a single subset of people on this planet that I have absolutely no interest in hearing from, or have any respect for, it's VMware and Broadcom company executives.

That subset includes:

Real Estate Agents
Scam Call Center Workers
Any Religious Follower
Politicians
The Police

So they can go whistle.

Prices have to go up to increase margins and satisfy wallstreet’s growth requirements so that that stock goes higher and the people who own the company (the investors) get a return on their investment.

This is the system people.

Endless growth in the goal.

Sylvain Cazard is just another Hock Tan puppet who lives by the mantra 'never bite the hand that feeds you'. Everyone within VMware knows that customer and partner comments are 100% true. But commenting on it will definitely cost them their jobs. It's a dictatorship and the leader is Kim Jong Tan.

HT is going to apply the old Broadcom Software playbook, regardless of VMware customer and partner objections. It's a combination of arrogance and ignorance.

He assumes that the playbook that was acceptable during the acquisition and exploitation of the CA and Symantec installed base will apply here as well. Very naive.
