Management Have No Empathy

My grandfather was placed on hospice, I communicated this to my coach. Which he has Dementia and parkinson's. I told my coach I need to be available to help with him during the day, so going to nights would be beneficial. No empathy what so ever. All the coach said if you can't work the said hours then let me know ASAP, because that is what I need. It was all about what she needed. They don't care about the associates at all.

It was very different when they gave psych / situational aptitude tests. Now the managers especially Market / Regionals are sociopaths.

I worked for a different company ( Meijer ) when my mom passed away. When I came to the store the next day one assistant manager was about to pass me in the hallway, he kinda greeted me without looking up from whatever report he was looking at while walking. Informed him that my mom passed away and all he said was "Oh, sorry to hear that." without out even looking up and kept going. I made it a point to never speak to that ( expletive ) again.

Then I went to the store director's office to let him know what just happened, and was about to ask a question about the bereavement policy when he just shuffled his papers on his desk and curtly replied, "So what do you want from us?" in a manner that felt like I was annoying him with a trivial matter.

True story. The moral of it is that isn't just Walmart that employs sc-mbags with no empathy in managerial positions. It's pretty much any big box retailer or grocer. If you work at one who has actual human beings as managers, then it is the exception rather than the rule.

I now work at local grocer that has just three stores but is very successful. The owner himself comes by randomly on some Sunday mornings and always makes time to speak to me. Also the same owner who once told a co-worker of mine that as long as he is alive my fellow co-worker will always have a job. Recently a longtime co-worker retired and before he clocked out for the last time, the owner personally called him and wished him well on his retirement. Even offered the use of his condo in Florida if he was ever on vacation in the area.

Good to finally work for someone who actually appreciates his employees.

I agree with you totally. I am very sorry to hear about your husband and mom passing. It is never easy no matter who it is. I am sorry walmart treated you that way.

Exactly. All they care about is $$$$$$$$$. No empathy no compassion. All they are concerned about is profit and how much of a bonus they are getting. My husband and mom passed away. No flowers, no card, not 1 manager, including my team lead and store manager came to the funeral. Doesn’t that make a person feel appreciated and cared for. Sam would shake his head the way people aren’t valued and appreciated. It’s truly pathetic. I understand there are valid business decisions that need to be made. However;
People are the core of the business. They show up to work every day. They take care of customers. Treat them with respect and appreciate them when they need help.
