I have a manager that recently yelled at me and threatened me with more work than I can handle. I am thinking of complaining to HR. Anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

if you belong to a protected class
White males just need to su-k it up and get the real work done.
File a complaint with EEOC if you belong to a protected class (gender, race, religion, s-xual orientation, disability status). You can position the complaint that you are being harassed due to your gender, race, disability status, etc
This post is a real reflection of HR and ethics team at Truist. HR needs to put themself on PIP to do some soulsearching.

Agree with a lot of the posters here. When you speak to HR, assume you are speaking to your manager, because every word you say will be reported back to them. HR are NOT to be trusted.

Need I remind you that HR covered for certain execs who rhyme with Men Keymer…that guy should be in jail for what he did
With the limited details there I would say no.
My boss has bragged that he is on good terms with HR and none of the complaints against him will ever stick. So far, it is true.

Remember that HR was created to protect the company. Yes, that does mean that they can certainly get rid of horrible managers that do horrible things, but they do this to protect the company's image. Being "mean" isn't going to be enough for HR to terminate someone, and will likely only land you in more hot water or be detrimental to your career. HR exists to ensure criminal/civil law compliance, not to determine if a manager su-ks at their job or is giving you too much work or is not a nice person.
If you feel you are being treated unfairly, your best recourse is to find a different job, and then upon doing so, publicly reviewing Truist. The public perception of Truist will do more for them to change their ways than anything else.
Going to HR or going to your managers manager will not work. this place is a circus. HR has some pet managers. Corrupt, dishonest & decaying Culture grommed and backed by HR and so called ethics team.

I’m one of the few people in my department that have gone to HR and weren’t RIF’d as a result. Don’t believe our non-retaliation policy.
This is not surprising given the legacy SunTrust culture that has become dominant post-merger. Complaining to HR should be the last resort and don’t assume your complaint will be held confidential. You might be better off letting it go, or having a skip level with your managers boss and raising your concerns directly.
Name the names….we can try them in the court of public opinion
