Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

What is the minimum number of direct reports a manager can have?

We've heard all sorts of misinformation the past few days, with some on here saying managers are required to have a minimum of 8 people reporting into them -- which we know is not true.

Then, I heard the correct number was 6.

Now, I'm hearing that even that will not be true in all instances, or perhaps it varies by division or C-level?

My question specifically concerns C16 or C15, but interested to hear different perspectives.

As an example, we get to see org charts next Tuesday, and to one MD, we know of four confirmed direct reports....I have to assume there are two additional ones he's going to surprise us with.

It probably varies, but in my part of Risk it seems like the magical number is indeed 6. All SVPs with 6+ reports kept them, all other SVPs were stripped from official managerial responsibilities, though they will still technically manage juniors.
