New Role Communication

Does anyone else find the way role changes were communicated as lacking in empathy? Meeting set up by new managers, with old manager as optional. Not being informed until the meeting that your directs would be reporting elsewhere. Your directs being informed the same way - by the new manager with the old one (me) also blindsided on who their new manager would be. Just seems like the team message overall is they don’t really care what happens to you, take it or leave it. Is this how big org changes are communicated even outside of Citi? I would have hoped for a 1-1 with the old manager instead where info is communicated. Else this is just fostering mistrust in the org/dept.

I am a C14 who was told I’d be changing from a people manager to an IC.

Many people managers were demoted to IC.
Our Director was not aware of some moves in his own team. This has been a true where is Waldo event. Span of control is back in view, 6-12 people for managers. Won't last, they attempt and then down the tubes. It will be amusing to see if new managers even know what their people need to do.

This is the most chaotic, unorganized and illogical reorg of my 20+ career. I’ve only been at Citi a little over 3 years thinking this way of operating is an brief anomaly but in general this is Citi’s operating model. OP how you were communicated to and treated isn’t and shouldn’t be normal. Best of luck to you and your team!

I know it’s hard to accept but don’t take it personal. Very few people know how to lead through crisis and Citi hasn’t provided a lot of opportunity for people to lead even without crisis. Take mental inventory and choose to rise above.
