Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Lousy timing

Was this timing truly necessary? They had to do layoffs so close to Easter? Why? A few weeks before or after would have worked just as well, you can't convince me otherwise. This seems like an unnecessarily cruel and/or callous move by the leadership. Not that it surprises me.

Seriously, Easter? How about Purim??

Regardless, it’s the end of Q1, nothing to do with Sky gods or bunnies and dyed eggs.

It's the quarter end. The only date that matters and the deadline that they wish to finish by.

Corporate layoffs are even harder on us atheists. Everyday is special to us.

The OP must either be living under a rock or is newly out of University/College (only first or second job). The date is meaningless. I too have witnessed layoffs done between Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. A former classmate was Laidoff from JPMC on the Sunday before Memorial Day Monday along with 100+ other people (happened before Covid). They received an email instructing them Not to go to work on Tuesday and that their personal belongings will be shipped in a box to their home address on file.

I have been working for wall Street banks for the last 20 years. Have seen multiple lay offs - most often between Thanksgiving and Christmas - banks are greedy, bonus that they don't give to you is their bonus. It's a common practice.
It's never a good time
