Thread regarding Alphabet Inc. (Google) layoffs

how google is trying to save the jobs on devices

Now you can see Google and Apple having meetings to bring Google Gen AI to Apple devices.

Let's think about this at Google's perspective:

  1. Does the device division is profitable? No
  2. Does Google build devices thinking about their users? No. They actually destroy the customer experience, like they did with Fitbit.
  3. Is Google trying to bring Gen AI to Google devices? Yes.. but nobody uses Google devices
  4. Is Google doing a Google job on Gen AI ? No.. actually a racist fiasco
  5. If nobody uses Google device, if Google is su-king on Gen AI, bringing the tech to a company that is really oriented to customers a good idea ? Yes

The way I see, the device division is doomed and Google is focusing in who really knows how to build devices .. it is not Google Chrome, it is not Fitbit, it is no Pixel Watch, etc.. It is Apple... the company rocking their stocks because they have the really basic requirement that Google never learned... CUSTOMER !!!!!

Apple products are in a different class. Yes, they are customer focused. But what makes Apple devices great is they are not looking to take the entire market share. Their products are expensive. It is catered to a specific audience that cares about devices that just works. That works well with other devices within the ecosystem.

Google devices are looking to conquer the whole market.

Actually, Apple laid off people after the last comment, but it was only 600 people. I believe Google laid off much more than 12k because we are still seeing small layoffs in different organs. Google reduced a lot of the operational costs, but I still have questions about the people targeted for these layoffs. There were many political opportunists involved in these layoffs, getting rid of people who were trying to make the company better.

Alphabet stock has been up 47% over the past year compared to Apple of 9.5%. I would say Alphabet is "rocking their stock" far more than Apple.

Google is gonna fail on any Gen AI application. Remember, they do not focus on customer and the product usually su-ks. The ones dont su-k are fruits of acquisitions.

The fallacy of your thought chain in Gen AI. After year and a half there's still no ki-ler app for it. The hype is getting harder to maintain. While ML models have niche use cases, AI is a next token random generator. There are more tokens but there's same amount of stochasticity in its output: useless.
