Amusingly I am part of a symphony orchestra. And you are still obviously missing the point here.
On stage, a conductor ensures the ensemble stays on the same note. Percussions cannot hear the strings, and often vice versa. Conductors keep everyone on track to flow best for the audience. The concertmaster (first violin) is the one who sets the style, sets the tone, and determines the way things should be done.
Back to a CEO job. You don't see the off-stage portion of a CEO enough to judge their performance. You only see the on-stage portion. You are not the audience for the part that matters. What you see is how the CEO (conductor) and the concertmaster (BU GM) operate together. A bad conductor forces a concertmaster to perform differently, and vice versa. A bad CEO forces a GM to do things differently. We didn't see that.
I won't defend Raghu's performance off-stage. For one, it no longer matters. It's in the past. It's not worth dredging up for random internet battles.

It's putting people you trust in key decisions and letting them decide what their team needs. You focus on the big picture, the large trends, maintaining Fortune 10 customers, seeing all the BUs move in the same direction. Then let your GMs figure out how to make it work best for their BU.

You never quite understood was Main Thing was, did you? It seemed very obvious. The Main Thing was whatever your BU's GM said was your mission. Every BU had a different one. Raghu was not there to go down the line and explain to each person what their BU does. It was his way of saying just determine why you're employed and focus on keeping that active.

There was mention of Gem fire and data in PP's call to focus on, but our understanding is the data sellers didn't make the transition to BCOM.
Also, this is a significant amount of $$ for the BU. This sounds like another decision not very well thought out. HMM?

What is it for Tanzu? Will this BU survive? Will the layoffs in May be it? Does MSFT have a real interest in the BU or is this just wishful thinking by leaders and meetings I've been exposed to attending?
Looking back, Raghu was just a placeholder CEO by Michael Dell once Pat Gelsinger left. His job was to keep the boat somewhat floating as they worked towards some type of acquisition, then Broadcom and Hock came calling, and we are left with the shell of what VMware used to be. As a now former employee, I'm not at all advocating that VMware a was perfect company, but they actually cared about the tech (although didn't do a good job of integrating acquisitions or interoperability between products).
