Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Nielsen Diversity and GROW programs

A colleague in one of the programs said the company skipped on having a graduation for their yearlong leadership development program called GROW (Get Ready For Opportunities At Work) this week, which is a highly touted program by the company minions across its many communication channels.

No involvement or even a mention by leadership on any accomplishments, yet are still promoting these programs for a new round of candidates in 2024 while asking current members to record videos singing the praises of the program to recruit people in.

Not interested in the least. Didn’t even say thanks or have a budget for a thank you gift apparently.

Participating in the GROW program was another way for Nielsen to say F-You to so many incredibly talented lower level staffers who actually thought the company cared enough to help them get a promotion.

The GROW program was just a way to get people to do extra work for no extra pay while they gave opportunities to their preselected favorites

It’s because SSW could care less about POC, and cares more about promoting SSW and her circle of cronies.

Everyone’s a corporate hero when times are good, but when the s**t hits the fan you find out their true character, and SSW and her “leaders” of programs like GROW and such were never invested in ANYTHING outside of promotions of themselves and maintaining their images.

But honestly, how is SSW helping POC now? We need help now! Are you fighting to extend our severance? Are you fighting to set up training programs? You do realize that POC will have a much more difficult time rebounding from this. SSW, your talks highlighted the obstacles that POC have to face that only POC can understand and now you have faded into the background. Here and now is when your people need you.

There was no privilege from being chosen for the GROW program as it was all just Nielsen trying to present themselves as a progressive company. Reminds me of NGID, just propaganda.

I think you missed the point. They are in a program called GROW (Get Ready for Opportunities to Work) and then they are laid off when they arrive back at their desk. “Privilege”???

As someone who was in a GROW session with SSW in the AM, and then by that afternoon in a meeting with HR and my MGR being laid off (with my head spinning), it's sad to hear what became of the program. Sounds like I was better off being let go before getting in too deep. Sorry guys.

That's what happens when you replace Meritocracy with Appearance.

GROW Program has been a joke from the start. So many people fell for that BS and “stretch assignments” that were supposed to help prepare you for a future within Nielsen. Now the spin doctors are trying to sell it “to prepare for work outside of Nielsen”. FU all you make lemonade Leaders!

And SS-W, where you be, not helping us POC.

From what I gathered there wasn’t much growth for anyone in the program(s) with nearly all expecting to be let go sometime after graduation.

Learned that one person did a promo video for their experience in the GROW program then was given their marching orders less than two weeks later. Now that indeed is some growth for ya!

Nearly all were told the programs would be of great benefit to them OUTSIDE of the company … aka there’s no place for them here anymore. Leadership reinforced that by canceling their graduations and ignoring the programs as they came to completion. Typical Nielsen …

But then again, you have non-leaders trying to lead programs for developing others and the results are as expected … a disaster, and just another example of what Nielsen can’t seem to do right.

Some GROW participants have also been let go in the offshoring efforts.

Why would the company need to say thanks? Participating in such a program is a privilege that benefits those who participate. The company is investing time in their growth. They need a thank you too or even a thank you gift?
