Thread regarding VMware layoffs

VMware culture- Haha

With all due respect to people who have left, leaving and staying.. This foul cry about oh what a superb culture VMware was it's all gone is BS... In my 5 years of tenure in VMware in 2 different teams I can say that there was he-l loads of Politics, Toxicity and Nepotism... The top management was busy in minting there cash and the middle management where running there own stand alone startups with new processes new systems new applications.. and not to forget the 1 Million Excel sheets...I mean come on!! There was no way VMware was a great place to work but it was a place where mediocrity survived and bloomed and there was no Value for performance and New thoughts but boot lickers ... I'm so glad that Toxic Era of VMware has ended and a new era for a lot of people like me who are able to breath free from the clutches of the so called flag bearers of VMware culture, diversity and what not who believed they knew it all. .. And Hey.. Take it with a grain of salt that IM staying with BC because I love the CULTURE here that is giving room for me and likes of me..

Welcome to high school…

or any other job.

Welcome to life.

Maybe you should just work in isolation , avoiding all human contact?

Found this on the Madrona site

"A passionate advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, Betsy has brought DEI into the core of VMware’s priorities and operating model, with accountability measures at every level of the organization."

She bragged and still brags about this, and look at what was the result. Did it make our products better? No. Did it make the company more successful? No. Did she ever care about that? No. At least they could sleep better at night knowing they were not microagressing a very small and sometimes imaginary group of super sensitive and easily offended people.

It's not that we are a "young country" we have become a "d-mb country" letting the dregs that usually would have been pushed to the margins of society destroy the entire country. Well done!

VMware became a woke disaster, like all of California. Companies get the buyers they deserve. And VMware and it's Didn't Earn It replacement workforce deserve all the Broadcom mess they are getting.

"We were asked to remove the string master and slave from our codes"

You cant come up with a more perfect example of how HR took over this company, and got their hands involved in things they had no business in.

"We lost our focus and our edge..." when...

Virtue signaling became more important than virtualization
Allyship became more important than APIs
PODs became more important than products

"We’re a young country founded on oppression and discrimination, please bare with us while we find our footing."

Why do people in Western countries indulge in this weird, ahistoric self-flagellation? It's really quite fascinating. Also, it's "bear with us."

Are you seriously that d-mb? USA was the greatest country in the world. Now you're not. Continue your internal fight. I'm sure the BRICS love it

The turning point was when virtue signaling became more important technology and building and selling products customers want.

We lost our focus and our edge, and this was mostly Pat, Betsy and Raghus fault.

I have a similar perspective, after just two years in the EUC BU where mediocrity reigns

Exploitation was the culture I know in the years I have been.. when I joined I joined with lots of hope considering it's a big enterprise but No I was proved wrong in a few days . all had hidden intentions of why they liked VMware some for the money they where paid some because no one questioned them what they are for who they are some for freebies some because they enjoyed playing dirty politics so on the whole a place where there was no Inclusion..I stayed too long to see this and was never part of the groupism and managed to sail to the other side.. It's sad so many people are jobless or let go but let's please for once not boost or glorify the BS culture we had.. it was horrible and Yucky at times with the amount of privilege people had so they could so anything and get away with because...They were part of group and a favourite to there leader.. VMware culture was too bad to glorify it so much

@op if you been here for 5 yrs, and most of it spend in pandemic and acquisition announcements, you are not qualified to comment anything about VMware culture. As for politics and bull$hit nobody ever said ther is no politics. So, take a chill pill and keep quiet. As for politics ended, so is your tenure with Broadcom//

VMware culture cannot be only for old timers but it should be evaluated based on the recent evolution and by that I'm fully qualified and your still asleep..

“ asked to remove the string master and slave from our codes, as some mental LGBT soy boy may feel offended” no pretty sure that was to align with what the rest of the industry was doing so as not to offend African Americans cuz you know, slavery…

I didn’t mind the culture. Loved the snacks. Def glad the low key MAGA and ra..st knuckle draggers won’t be as big a concern anymore. Never worked somewhere that had so many angry entitled white dudes complaining anonymously online before.

What was actually toxic was the decent chunk of the management my colleagues in India had to deal with many years ago.

Good luck and good riddance to all of you.

And before the knuckle draggers assume anything, I’m a dude, not g-y, and not a PoC, and not a millennial…

C'mon, what a waste of time, no wonder we're acquired.

If you believe that's the reason why vmware was acquired, I've got news for you.
That little bit of theatre doesn't cover for the horrible management for over a decade.
I wager the horrible management is a bigger reason as compared to attempting to right societal wrongs.

There are pro's and con's of both. I prefer the BC culture. VMW is too woke. We were asked to remove the string master and slave from our codes, as some mental LGBT soy boy may feel offended. C'mon, what a waste of time, no wonder we're acquired.
