PIP before layoff

Coworker and I received a PIP. What does this mean before the layoffs coming up?

In our case looks like their avoiding to pay severance. What should we do, because their trying to sc--w us. Only been with Citi for a year

You are f….ed. Decent employment lawyer would cost you more than those severances; look elsewhere.

Best advice is to excel 100% on your PIP and document everything related to it. If they give you impossible tasks, prove it. If they won't accept work that should be acceptable, gather proof and maybe witnesses.

What were the grounds for giving you the PIP?

It means they are hoping you quit to avoid severance and are betting that you won’t go to a lawyer. So don’t quit and find a lawyer ASAP!!

Don’t Sit there and be a victim. Get an attorney now and I would make sure your manager and HR knows you’re getting an attorney. That should scare them a bit.

Get all your paperwork and go to an employee attorney now. I wouldn’t sign off on anything related to this as they can take it as that you agree to what they say tell them you’ll get back to them with your attorney

It means they can fire you without paying severance due to performance. Whether you deserved it requires a lot more info. But it's no secret Jane's layoff budget is expensive so it's a lot cheaper to fire folks than pay them severance.
