Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Still ok to refer ?

A friend who had just been laid off from another company with a good package asked to refer a role at VMware GSS. How’s GSS doing in the US region? Stable?

Yes, support will go to 3rd party vendors, but Hock will keep GSS Support engineers as back line support. I am not sure if he is going to keep all of the current TSEs.

Lololololol….. that’s funny. Go on and refer them but tell them to keep looking cuz support will be gone within a year or so…. That’s gonna go to a 3rd party by the time the dust settles

NASA GS is one of the most brutal support regions. I left last month, I've been hearing a stream of people are leaving. Mostly everyone is trying to find a way out right now and just waiting for the right opportunity, wouldn't recommend to join unless your friend is very desperate.

There are easier ways to end a friendship. GS is much worse than before. Morale is zero. Same amount of work, much less staff to handle it. No one cares anymore, no one volunteers.

Sure, you can refer. If he doesn't have a job, it can be a good opportunity for him.

I'd rather cut off my hand than take a job at GSS!

I would stay away. Most products are sinking, and people (from engineering to support) are leaving or looking to leave. It will be a big sinkhole as time goes on. It’s not a great time to join. Actually, don’t bother. If your friend can take a year to find a better option in different companies, that would be better. If she had to join, then keep looking for other options. She can always resign the same day and go off. In an exception case, if you don’t like that person very much, then refer her. Get the referrer bonus and see her suffer.
