If I start the retirement process, or even check on what my options are, will this stop me from getting laid off? Really would love to get that severance. C12.

You'd think that if you put in for retirement, you wouldn't be laid off. But this company is so messed up that it wouldn't surprise me that you would be starting the 90-day retirement process AND laid off during it.
The latter would be my preference as well - much more financially beneficial. But I'm not waiting around past 1st quarter for it to happen.

To the person who retired 8 months ago, what was the deal with health insurance (not cobra or Medicare), I read they have something for retirees under 65, but nothing on costs etc. what did they offer?
You can call retirement plan services and ask. (call them, don't set up appt.) Tell them your story and get their feedback. You do not have to give your name, they are humans just like us and will give you an honest answer. I recently retired (about 8 months ago) and they gave me excellent advice on timing, insurance advice and what I was entitled to as benefit and who to contact. For example... did you know if you retire after March 1st, Citi will pay you your entire year of PTO as well as all holidays!!

Phase 4-8 is happening any day now. I would just hold off on retiring for a few more days.

To the individual who wrote the topic, please check the Citi site for the retirement guide to see what is included. Also check the leaving Citi policy and the severance pay policy to see what options are available to you. All can be found on the internal website.
No one can afford to retire when the age is reached. Medical insurance is too high.
Its too high because Obama Care (Affordable Care Act) does not work. The reason it does not work is because it hinges on everyone having insurance and paying into the system. The younger generation does not see a need to pay for insurance as they are healthy and bounce back fast. They would rather pay the fee in taxes for not having it rather than getting it. So, since the younger generation that it was cool to vote for, they are not cool with paying into the system to sustain it. So everyone sticks around for as long as they can. BEHOLD…a problem of your own making
Probably. Wait see what happens in the next few months. Severance would be better!!!!!
Careful about retirement notice. I have heard, but not confirmed that all your vacation time needs to be scheduled and approved before you give notice. They could freeze your time otherwise and you will have to work the notice with no days off.
