Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Managers cannot decline remote request because they want to!

My manager told us there are guidelines on approve or decline a request and simply if you worked for more that 2 years and you picked remote they must approve it.

Manager “approval” is just step 0. HR makes the real choice. My own manager is trying hard to save me by giving me 5.99 merit and 107% ibp and put me on special projects to make me look more useful. He knows he can’t do much beyond that. Everyone else in my team will be hybrid except me….

It’s really not up to the manager. Dell is trying to get to a number. Dell is super passive aggressive. They even created a slogan for it, “play nice but win”. Couldn’t be more passive aggressive than that.

So they’ll assess all the remote people and then HR will drive some sort of mandate across managers that they can’t give them a raise or promotion. Then it will keep going from there.

Companies like IBM and others have transparency and have guts. Dell doesn’t.
