Work-life balance doesn't exist. We've been understaffed for over a year, so I spend more time working than I do with my family, and it really shouldn't be that way. I'm assuming that is true throughout the company because everyone I talk to seems to have the exact same complaints. I'm now praying to be laid off.

You're not overworked or underpaid. You have "opportunities" to do your job, plus the jobs of two or three other people we laid off a year ago. You won't get a raise commensurate with the increase in tasks and responsibilities. Ypu won't get a title change to adjust your pay scale. But you will have plenty of "opportunities." You should feel lucky to even have a job in this climate. Just keep working late and logging in on the weekends. It'll pay off someday (for your manager). Trust us!
Vast starts hiring ex-NetAppers? From my experience they're already half the company. I do think not hiring any former coworkers unless they're one of your boys is a pretty standard mentality. I'm ex-HP and I know many ex-HP managers that won't touch HP people with a 10 ft pole. I also have a good ex-AWS friend who won't hire AWS people. I think people have a hard time separating the system from the people. So rather then saying NetApp had a system that made it difficult for X to be effective it becomes X su-ks. It's more of a limitation in the specific hierarchy then anything else.
Pure likes to hire ex-NetAppers and guess what, they are gaining market share on flash products. I would not be surprised if Vast starts hiring ex-NetAppers. Checkout who is part of Vast's BoD, Mr. Mendoza himself.
Just work less and take the time you need for your people. Why feel guilty? You live just once, man.
I wrote the original post, @2asg+1r9V4Gnp. To be fair I can't say it's a corporate wide block, it could just be certain groups, almost entirely spearheaded by ex-NetApp people. My current SVP is ex-NetApp, he's the one who brought me in and straight told me I was 1 of about 5 people at NetApp he would allow in his org. I don't think this is a new thing and I'm sure it happens across all companies, I just heard it very frequently during my job search.
"Care to elaborate more on this? Plenty of great NetApp employees have left for bigger and better roles at other tech companies. I'm interested to hear which specific companies you know of that bottom deck NetApp resumes."
We are talking majority now, many old companies like NetApp ( for eg. even IBM ) have good employees here and there, and they will leave when they sense the first instance of sh8 being shoveled. Many employees from around early 2000s left for much "cooler" companies. nowadays, netapp is just hoarding pond sc-m
I know many will take offense to this, but NetApp employees have developed a reputation of being poor hires, I know multiple companies that circular file or bottom deck NetApp resumes now.

This is only because you work on one the failed science projects. I'm sure a different position in a different organization would benefit you.
Netapp is a wonderful place to work where else do you get free beer on Friday?
Only the losers got let go those who remain are the cream of the crop.
My entire team got cut last year at NetApp. Almost everyone from my team is working for less money, have > 50% mandated office time, putting in more hours, for worse benefits, except life insurance for some reason. I would take my old job back in a heartbeat.

You guys have work?
Our projects are cancelled non-stopped. Barely anyone has anything to do.
lol wat? netapp pays well above my local market rate, and the benefits (stock plans, bonuses) and conditions are all top notch. Further, I've never once felt pressured to deliver on work, no overtime, just the odd occasional whine. I'm guessing you are the US? Of all the valid criticisms I could level at netapp, this is one area they are fantastic in.
I'd be curious to know who "we" is, as in what department are you in. I gotta say, minus the eventual back-to-office plans that will probably eventually happen, the flexibility some groups has is pretty fantastic.
News flash: Posts like this exist EVERYWHERE! Try starting your own business. Oops you’ll never see your kids again if you do that. Go find one of those magical fully remote forever positions so many people say are out there. Good luck to you.
I'm not saying there are no problems here. Of course there are. But if you think it’s any worse here than the rest of corporate America then you’re living under a rock.
And I can say that from experience. The last 4 places I’ve worked have boards with the exact same types of posts as here.
