Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Jen Fe--h call - comments by an employee

I am getting to understand a bit more on the RTO situation after last week’s call. Funny enough most of the leaders looked like they were at home. Idk who the HR lady was but I guess Dell “hinted” towards RTO. They brought examples of other company which in my eyes is monkey see monkey do. Dell leadership is not thinking for themselves but think based on other companies. What I want to say to the people working at Dell is that if you are planning to go remote be prepared to be laid off as this company is monkey see and a monkey do company. As you can see, workers from Netflix were kept as remote in the beginning, but were laid off soon after solely because they are remote. So be prepared, save up, start applying, and make your plans. Good luck team ❤️.

In 2023, I experienced a layoff despite my significant contributions to my team, including extensive code development and recognition from customers. Additionally, I have obtained numerous technical certifications, particularly AWS/Azure/AI. It's disheartening to witness the apparent inefficiencies within Dell's IT department, where senior directors and their teams seem underutilized. Some teams take an excessive amount of time to implement minor configuration changes, and resources are often misallocated, with multiple individuals assigned to tasks that could be handled by far fewer people. Furthermore, there appears to be a surplus of senior directors and I-10 executives, many of whom seem to be primarily involved in scheduling rather than driving meaningful progress. Additionally, certain QA groups have struggled to complete test bed environments over the past two years despite efforts to automate testing processes. Some product groups seem more focused on generating hype rather than delivering tangible results, with new buzzwords introduced every couple of years without significantly impacting Dell's product offerings. Initiatives such as "Dell Print," "Dell APEX," "Dell Cloud," and "Gen AI" have failed to translate into meaningful changes or profits. Many patents filed by Dell lack practical value, with a significant portion remaining unused for revenue generation. Unfortunately, it appears that Dell's executives prioritize layoffs of lower-level employees, including technical staff, while protecting and promoting their favored individuals.

Depend on the % of employees opting for remote.
It wouldn't surprise me if it's in the 50% range. Then Dell will go back to the drawing board realizing most of their employee pool don't care much for the "rewards" of hybrid.

What Dell is forgetting is there is a lot more to Netflix success.
Dell management is the guy who will take a muffler off a sports car and put it on a Hyundai Accent and wonder why it doesn't perform the same.

@xus+1r8XQkei Eventually, no. They want to just be a shell company of processes for supply chain management and outsourced manufacturing.
