Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

What’s happening with Ops in Ontario

Does anyone know what’s happening in ops? We’ve always been “safe”. Yet now the union has been asked to axe multiple outside workers. Fewer workers equals fewer supervisors (me). We’re already running with a skeleton staff and now this? Not to be arrogant but we are the front line when it comes to safety. And now we’re looking at reductions. I’ve avoided other opportunities because ops is safer. Now this? Wtf is happening??

Looks like you have your answer - GDS operations is going to get hit big time. Collapsing regional yards.
Operations, Stations, Construction, Planning, metrics dorks … terrible time to be a manager.

USR’s in lug are protected against any layoffs by their collective agreement,,, the company cannot layoff any as long as they contract work out the USR’s do,, meaning contractors such as lakeside,,, Gtel ,, hetek would all have to have their contracts reduced,,, if the company wants to violate the contract then they will face grievances and arbitration and will likely lose,,,, to reduce numbers they need to propose a severance that’s acceptable to all

Shame on you thinking Ops was safe. It hasnt been safe in a while. If you missed out on opportunities in the past. Too bad too sad .😝

Those who are leaving “anyway”. Are most likely the folks that are ready to retire and have been waiting for a package offering before doing so. If they don’t get it, they will retire next month. I know of at least one person in our yard that has that exact plan.

With Lakeside doing the majority of the work for LUG, I'm surprised there wasn't mass cuts to USR's long ago.
At this point the locals should probably negotiate and allows those outside workers who are leaving anyway to get the best deal possible.
