Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Taxes are going to be fun...

ETrade reported the converted RSUs as gains. Definitely paying a CPA this year.

Supplemental transaction report has adjusted cost basis. It will be lot of work trying to match it to the transactions but it can be done. All tax software have ability to change cost basis. IRS asks to calculate and put adjusted cost basis while filing. I don’t think any of us will get in trouble if we made small mistakes. I am going to try to do it myself before spending $800 for CPA. And yes I got the $$ for fractional shares also. No cheating there.

And to all BC fan boys calling VMW folks d-mb for not able to file taxes - mo---------r Hock made a mess of the transaction and lazy BC finance folks couldn’t put the cost basis Humty Dumty back together for months. Which is why we are all in this fu-k up.

Get the cost basis from your statement and update form 8949 in turbo tax.

I'm now very glad that I sold most of my VMW RSUs before the transfer.
Much simpler tax-wise.

When the ETrade filing lists the cost basis at about 5% of the value of the sale, it complicates the taxes. The real cost basis, regardless of fractional shares, is the offset value reported to the W2 which we already paid taxes on. I'm not sure how that makes VMW employees d-mb. We might be lazy for not wanting to do the math (or perhaps we're just afraid of the IRS)... Last I saw, TurboTax doesn't handle that sort of complexity.
