Is it true? For all those being laid off in this round? If true, I wonder if it will be the same for future layoffs. Maybe it really is better to get laid off before merger.

No, confirmed. Those days are long gone. Don't hang on for that.
When I left last May I found that with my age (over 60 with 25 years of high tech sales, Cisco, Oracle , EMC, Dell,Juniper and a couple start ups) and Juniper I was as sc--wed as when I left Dell. People just look at Dell and Juniper sales folks as high calibre. Not sure but it seems that way. Dell was almost a death call for my career but I moved on. After Juniper I got out of networking. Making 165k base and little commission but the stress level is a lot less and it's interesting not just a commodity sale which is what the bulk of networking has become the past decade.
Look for a start up or do like I did change tack and get out of the networking space, nothing new happing there.
100% agree. To many companies, JNPR is viewed as flat to no growth, old, slow and not able to adapt to the faster growth type companies. While it is not true for everyone, it applies to many who have been at JNPR for 10+ years. Long searches, dropping levels and taking pay cuts should be expected.
Take what you can Cisco laying off 5% so there are more legacy people than jobs in networking.
I am finding the hard way J is not a good thing on your resume,
SAAS and cyber don’t want us, it’s going to be a brutal wake for many people when the cuts come and 1000’s of people hit the market this summer.
