Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Is It Worth It?

To those who had been in the industry for a long time, is it worth staying and enduring the periodic/cycle of layoffs?

  • did the prestige really mattered working for a so called huge public corporations?
  • did the money you made really increased your quality of life despite all the stress during layoffs?
  • would you not have made money and still retire comfortably if you had work in any other company or industry?
  • did you really made something out of yourself or you’re like most employees who feel stuck but stayed coz of money?
  • did your finances really improved working for a company that pays well or you’re one of those in a rat race still living paycheck to paycheck and couldn’t make a dent on your huge mortgage?
  • did you stay coz you’re not willing to change your lifestyle coz other jobs won’t pay as much?
  • did you stay coz you’re not really qualified much to compete outside Enbridge and you got to management level without having a real college degree?

"Still living paycheck to paycheck because of the COL where I'm at."

I don't know where you live or what you do, but I'm very skeptical that you're making subsistence minimum. If you're living check to check, my presumption has to be that it's not because of where you live, it's because of how you've lived.

I've regressed working here. Too many layers and too much BS. I can't get a raise and can't leave. Still living paycheck to paycheck because of the COL where I'm at.

I'm personally stuck because of the money and fringe benefits. I wish I could move up in the company, but I'm blocked. I'll ride it out and keep looking for that unicorn job that some people fall a** first into.

I’m in my early 30s, and I’ve been well compensated here , more than what I would make in other companies. Having said that, I’m a P. Eng from a reputable university and I’ve invested in myself enough that I’m not chained to any one company for my livelihood. If unfortunately I’m laid off, I know I can land somewhere else. I’ll miss the Enbridge money but I won’t be destitute.

For me the answer is yes. I’m not going to find a job with better pay, pension, and vacation time than what I get here. For others, especially younger people, it’s tough to say. This has truly been a great place to work for me. But with the constant attacks on our industry who knows what the future brings. Hopefully people realize that NG is the fuel we need to use during the transition to green energy and our efforts to blend hydrogen into our lines are successful. If that’s the case we may have a long bright future ahead. If only we had a crystal ball
