Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco Must Cut 36K

Cisco must layoff like Meta in order to get into high growth area
Meta cuts 18K and Cisco must do 36K otherwise tiny cuts won't help
In order for Cisco to transition to high growth area like AI, big cuts are needed to save space for the new hiring of high growth areas
If any cut less than 20K, the stock will drop because investors don't see the commitment from Chuck (or hopefully his soon-to-be replacement) on change and growth.

The only hope is to rip off the band aid and start all over with a competent CEO

The remaining software staff at this "software company" will still only know how to not correctly fix bugs in 40 years of legacy written in an ancient language that static analysis shows none of you have ever known. Even if you replaced everyone from the CTO on down you need to spend massively on maintaining that legacy or you lose the revenue and earnings you need to support investment in other businesses - an investment with which there is no guarantee you'll have any success.

Even if you could train them on modern technology Cisco has none of the business skills to keep from losing share in its own existing markets. It only knows how to play with a monopoly rule book in a high margin market, and finding another $58B of business with 30% operating margins which every other tech company in the world dreams of and has far more competent staffs would be eager to take should Cisco start showing signs of success.

As for Meta, they have losses measuring in the tens of billions on the metaverse. With well over twice the revenue, a third more operating margin and 201% yoy quarterly earnings growth they can tolerate this massive failure without spooking the market in a way Cisco likely never will.

@klg+1r3QGGjt But with 85k plus red badges Cisco is not innovating or developing.

Totally different business models. Meta is like Twitter (now X)... it can run on a fraction of the resources. They hired like crazy and they don't actually need that many people to keep things running.
Cisco makes hardware, software, needs tech support, sales, partner engagement, etc. etc.
Yes, Cisco can cut, but unlike Meta Cisco actually needs to innovate and develop new technologies.

That is an unsustainable number. Do you know the difference between number of products from Meta and number of products from Cisco ?
