Thread regarding VMware layoffs

UK employee just signed

UK employee who has just signed and accepted their welcome letter.

Firstly, I was in the fortunate position to be offered a welcome letter, as many people were not. Sometimes having a choice is more difficult, sometimes it is easier.

Although I am not particualrly enthusiastic about the company I'm joinining (but the team is great), I have responsibilities, bills to pay. It came down to this.

Turning down a pile of cash is always hard, but I know this will be a drop in the ocean when I envision my future career journey.

This year will be the year of learning (new role and certifications) and networking. Positioning myself so that I can pivot, on my own terms.

I hope everyone is at peace with the decision they are making over the weekend.

I wish everyone the best if luck in your decision and whatever makes best sense for you. I have decided to sign due to low tenure and therefore very modest package. I have decided to look at the situation with glass half full and have a positive approach and outlook. I am confident I can be successful just as much as you can if you decide to stay, but it is important to align your mindset and actions with your final decision. If your head and heart isn't in it, maybe not worth staying. But again, best of luck to everyone regardless of if you are staying or leaving.

It’s totally down to your circumstances dude, you won’t find the right answer here. Do you feel like it is time for a change or are you happy with at least a year’s salary and RSU grants (until they make you redundant in 1-4 years). I declined because my offer was disappointing and I know I can do better elsewhere and I want some sense of security. I’ll get over a year’s salary after tax with the redundancy package so I get a free year and plenty of time to find the right job, I won’t see an opportunity like that for a long time, if ever. But that’s based on my situation and might be totally the wrong thing for you. If you feel you need another year to prepare for your next career move or you really love doing what you are doing and think you can keep doing it at Broadcom then stay. I wish you the best of luck.

Any other UK employees struggling with a decision this morning? I decided to sign, after leaning more towards decline all week - but I can't bring myself to physically sign. Sigh...

Irish employee who rejected two weeks ago. Don’t stress, the market isn’t as bad as people are making out, you owe broadcunt nothing. The company you loved is dead and not coming back. Line your pockets and move on.

I just declined this evening, my other half convinced me and was sure all week about me declining, actually everyone I talked to at home and at work said it was probably the right thing to do in my circumstances. Didn’t realise so many VMware folks on here were thinking the same way. I feel excited now I’ve done the deed. Good luck to everyone to didn’t get the offer or turned down the offer.

Best of luck everyone. I’m still 50/50 on what to do. All of my family want me to leave. I don’t think it will be terrible at BC but I have serious worries about how much certain roles are valued, and the face that the offer was so weak with no effort to do anything about it, despite the wild numbers of amazing people I hear leaving

I took the weekend to think through my decision and will also be declining. Long story short, there are other companies that value their employees better that BC. Life is short, you have to make the best of it and being at BC will not allow me to live my best life. Good luck to all of you.

I’m out too, declining tomorrow. Had a great time with VMW and worked with some amazing people but now is a good time to change things up and find something that has that start-up kind of feel, we had that at VMW. They say it is good for your career to move on after 2-4 years and I’ve been here waaay longer than that. These guys are essentially paying me to leave 😃. I wish everyone the best no matter what they choose to do with their offers.

I wish you all the best. Personally, I'll be declining tomorrow. The certainty of a severance package versus likely further rounds of layoffs, continuing uncertainty and upheaval, unhappy customers and employees, and RSUs which may never vest feels like the best option. There are other companies hiring where the culture is more aligned to what we've had but appreciate everyone's circumstances are unique.

We’ve all got to make the best decision for ourselves, no shame in that. I wish your well going forward, if you are anything like the people I have worked with at VMware then you will make a success of anything you put your mind to. Best wishes.

By the way, I got an offer but I will be declining as the offer didn’t match what I believe I would be expected to do for the company going forward. I believe it was said on an internal Ask Me Anyting call that the PSU element of the offer is meant to be a reflection of your expected growth potential in the company. In my case, the RSU offer was saying “your career is done here”.
