March Madness

Not college ball.

It is evident that UP is falling apart. I am predicting the west getting hit the hardest. Guess the date in March?

Railroading is a monopoly. If we lose a contract, bnsf gets it and vice versa. The customers have no other options besides bad and worse.

The west is done because of the economic crash in China. The West is the gateway to Asia. The biggest volume was China, not anymore. China is going through a major recession and it is affecting the west coast intermodal volume . The nail that shut the coffin was the APL contract another Asian intermodal contract. So yes, expect the west coast ports to dry up. Nothing like this has ever happened to the UP in recent years. Except the Great Depression.

Why does everyone keep talking about the APL contract going to Bnsf? If I remember correctly, BNSF lost the Schneider contract to UP. It's kind of like the carriers just trade with each other. The only way the west coast is done is if they shut down the ports of LA and Long beach. That's a huge cash flow. Remember, railroads love intermodal.
