Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Massive layoffs in California

Bulldozer guy was right yet everyone wants to doubt him. Rumor is 8 more locations to be hit hard and only a few workers left.

Any job’s cancelled in California?

Vena does not care about any job except his own. At this point, I'm not really sure what the CEO is supposed to do anymore. If the shareholders are making the decisions, then why the need for a CEO at UP? Why do we even need a corporate HQ? What are the executives job duties? They're supposed to be the ones in charge and running this company, and all I ever see them do is give speeches about how great the company is! Vena is a Wall Street secretary plain and simple. A lot of people don't like him or the executives at all! How that munchkin shows up and smiles at the employees like he's actually doing something great for the company is stunning. Hunter would be proud!

Fresno, Oakland, Stockton not safe. No boxcar programs. Cars moving make money. Cars that sit lose money. Thats what Mr. Vena sees. Movement. He cares less about the car dept. Lathrop is the safest for mechanical dept. Just 3 too many managers in NorCal. It's been talked about for years. Saying that they can't run that slim. Well it's going to happen. I myself, didn't think my job was at risk. Here I am....... to give you fair warning find another job. They are NOT going to let you go back to your craft. That no longer applies. Union can't help you. Vena's team are watching all movement with tooth and comb. Don't be surprised

I can care less if they close all the yards and send everyone packing. We were here before the railroad started and we will continue to be here long after the railroad is gone. We don’t need the railroad. The railroad needs us. Power to the people!

The first three quarters of 2023 were negative in volume. The 4th quarter was positive for the first time since 2021. Freight has been on a downward spiral since the beginning of 2022 up until the 4th quarter of 2023. Now you tell me, will one quarter in two years make a difference? The writing is on the wall. It’s over rover. Oh, and by the way. The US entered into the recession red line territory on the 3rd quarter of 2023.

Dolores and commerce are already like that. The only shop units are inspections, and thats only 3 or 4 units. Road failures and heavy repairs are dispoed to West colton.

If they furlough 40 machinist then they will have to close both shops because that’s all the machinist they have if even that. They won’t close the LA shops just because the UP has new business in Mexico.

So if they have a skeleton crew in LA. They furlough 40 machinist. They will close one of the yards and make the other run through shop. Keep the machinist with highest senority at closesd yard till they retire. No need to pay severance to the rest.

How many places are allowed to watch the playoff games at work ? Most bosses who are football fans want to watch themselves. It’s always good to have a guy or two on lookout patrol though in case a rat tries to catch everyone.

I wish we had 70 machinist.

There are no 70 working machinist at the LA roster. You’re lucky if you can find 40 at its very best. The furlough of 2020 left only 36. All the new hires after that were furloughed again in 2023. Must be an old roster.

There's still no one praising the bulldozer guy for supposedly being right because NO ONE CARES! I'm sure the bulldozer guy and the OP are the same person, which is why there's only one person that's congratulating him. Seriously though no one cares! Let the id--ts in Omaha do what they want. They're the ones that'll be answering for the problems that are coming.

Check the roster its 70 machinists for LA. But i hope the cut in LA is fake news.

Fake news. They don’t have that amount of machinist there. It’s a skeleton crew. If they get rid of the skeletons then who is going to work on the high and low horse power. Not Colton or Roseville. Those shops cant even handle their own repairs let alone their trains. Every shop is maxed out in workload. It’s going to be interesting who they cut. I say the big shops will get the axe. Too many people.

If they furlough 40 machinist in LA. That would leave 30 machinists between the yards commerce delores and city of industry. I call bs. But possible since most the heavy work is dispo out to west colton and/or roseville.
