Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Tech layoffs to happen in non-strategic locations?

My boss told our team that he expects the bulk of tech layoffs to happen in non-strategic cost centers like Singapore, Dublin and China etc.
He thinks that people will be safer in certain designated hubs.
He attends in a lot of the TTS Tech leadership calls, so he would get his info from the top of the house.

Can anyone else verify that this is the strategy?

Many Indians at Citi is direct hire just like myself, we didn’t join Citi via recommendations (referrals) or via joining through a consulting company, we directly joined here by our individual efforts. Persons like me left family and travelled lone to this country to achieve something. We did huge sacrifice on our beautiful family life and spent our life lonely here.
You also mentioned ““Most live in the best places which born citizens must compete very hard to obtain.. ” that because most of the Indians comes to United States for job or studies are already from rich families, they are already have so many properties and ancestral homes, and used to live in nicer places, so when they go to other countries, they tend to stay the way they lived with their parents in India. So they spent all the money for buying good homes in nicer places.

Its not cost effective anymore. The APAC region and\or HB workers want more money to offset the cost of living increase from this past year and even more so during negotiations at the end of the contract.

OK, my two cents - I have worked with many Indian people both based in EMEA/NA and India. The reality is the level of attention to detail, education, working knowledge of English and motivation is pretty low among Indians - there are exceptions - but the majority are sub-standard when it comes to large US corporations. The main reason we hired people in the Mumbai office was cost cutting... Sorry to say that. It wasn't talent, just saving money.

I really like the way you put it. I am also from India and am ever grateful to US and Her Citizens for giving me an opportunity to work and live safely in USA. I can totally understand your position and feelings you expressed. The difference I personally noticed is that Indians are jack of all trades. Most US citizens are excellent at what they do, but they stick to their strength. I am not powerful enough to drive the direction of the policy but I also see such disconnects in parity.

The issue is not about indians as whole. The issue is about most fakes and politics come out of these Indian consulting based managers and Directors. They do anything to survive.

Didn’t realize everyone hates us(Indians). Now very regretting to work here. I used to be very proud of Citi as a best place to work. But after seeing all of your comments, I feel I should move out after 11 years of service here.

Most of the tech staff in US and European branches are already Indian. I expect they will be getting laid off as well.

As mentioned in previous posts, Indians rule Citi. So no wonder layoff's happening in China and Singapore than in India

There have already been lots of layoffs in the Innovation Labs in those locations. I don't know if that is connected?
