I am constantly amazed and people being shocked by this. There have been posts for the last 2 years. Plenty of people to validate what has been said and to expect. CA, Symantec?. Come on it’s widely known. Are living under a rock?

Sigh, more people who think themselves wise sages who know more than everyone else. But they're just guessing like everyone else.

I predict we will go into aggressive hiring mode soon - how else will Hock spend billions more on VMware R&D? He promised! No more layoffs, about time.

For some of us it is quite obvious and you should all stop being shocked,

“Reading between the lines is literally the opposite of being obvious =)”.

I can’t help you if you don ‘ t understand “corporate speak” . For some of us it is quite obvious and you should all stop being shocked, 18 months of waiting while a ridiculous number of red flags go up and a few conversations wth industry peers from CA and Symantec make it all obvious.

"Is non RTO in Ireland a bait and switch tactic? Can't figure out why it's been excluded and possibly for how long.... Non RTO can also be a negative thing. No cap on voluntary leavers, no RTO resulting in more office consolidation all point to a dwindling site..."

The answer to your questions is, in a nutshell, tech people are threatening their managers telling them that they are leaving, after the GSS Cairo closure the NSX team is in a total chaos, and EUC people rightly were pi---d off during the consultation Zoom this Friday. Of course, they are free to change the policy later this year, but I wouldn't be surprised if they will switch to FULL remote, leaving only one building on the campus.
More to come in the next months.

stay, go.. fired... what ever. Collect the money anyway you can, leave if you find something better or stay if your career has no meaning to you. You do you..

The sh---y circus show during the consultation report meeting in Cork this Friday was very funny. If the situation wasn't so tragic it would be hilarious...
After being insulted that we should walk on the water to have any form of remote job whatsoever now last plot twist: no compulsory RTO anymore!!!
They are OBVIOUSLY sh-----g in their pants after having closed GSS in Cairo.
Kudos to our "leadership", most of them are already calculating their severance.

The numbers won't really shake out until transition people are all gone. Then any major divestitures of business units and re-sizing of groups later down the line (which could also include rehiring people).

You won't know the real numbers for a good three years

I would love to know what percentage of people being asked to stay are declining and leaving on their own.

for a company desperately chasing money with all meanings ( some of them are super stupid), nothing is impossible

Remember people saying that 40% would be laid off on acquisition? Yeah, those didn't go anywhere. Layoff rumors are bunk. Especially because they are also based on attrition. VMW was able to avoid, or reduce, some RIFs just because enough people left the quarter before.

Honestly speaking it’s about right. Talk to CA, Symantec and also he is transparent about what will happen over time. You need to listen and read between the lines. It’s quite obvious.

Based on his stated goals of revenue per employee, around 25% would remain. So roughly speaking, yea. Also those which remain will have a large shift to “best cost” areas. In a years time it would be interesting to see how many jobs in the US remain.
