Thread regarding Alphabet Inc. (Google) layoffs

I thought Pichai said they were wrong with the 12,000 layoff in 2023 and wouldn't do it again?

When what Pitchai said was reported, his opinion is not important, but the topic of layoff is important. When I read the news, I was thinking, hmm, he is discussing layoff with someone… why?

honestly, if you believe "we wouldn't do it again" from Google or ANY other company, they you're not too bright

He probably meant "We were wrong when we laid off only 12000, we should have let go more people"

Pitchai is handing over Google to the Indian government on a silver platter. Y'all got played!

No, this is just like the dot.com crash--a wage spiral to the bottom. Why keep all the highly-paid employees (who were hired during labor crunch) when hundreds of unemployed and qualified people apply for jobs these days and are ready to replace Google, Meta, etc. employees at a fraction of the labor costs? Many former FTEs are even willing to become contractors at a huge cost benefit to employers.

Ha! Layoffs are the goto move for c suite that don't have enough business acumen to increase ROI in other ways. Pichai falls in that category.

lol he def didn’t say that and honestly I don’t think any executive can promise that there won’t be any more layoffs ever.
