Thread regarding Progressive Insurance layoffs

Cleveland clinic is dropping Cigna

Beware if you're in Ohio and need to decide to receive care at Cleveland clinic... Which is a major healthcare provider for those of us in the Mayfield (home office area)...

They're dropping our insurance and now our out of pocket expenses will go up...

Healthcare is now strictly a money grab. Cleveland Clinic is trying to upcharge everyone for simple things. As a diabetic, test strips to test your glucose level are about $1 per strip. At the Cleveland Clinic, that simple test that I could do for $1 is charged at $86. That is one he-l of an upcharge.

Not sure why this got down voted when the OP is right about contractual negotiations. There is no word that Cigna is dropping Cleveland clinic though, but I, as well as many other of the posters hope that is not the case.

I'd like to clear something up. I'm a recent retiree from Progressive, and I'm on Cigna COBRA. I've been largely happy with Cigna and the Cleveland Clinic and have no gripes with either.

Progressive notified employees in writing just prior to the deadline for choosing 2024 benefits that the Cleveland Clinic may become out of network for Cigna in April 2024. I'm sure Progressive leadership was not happy about that and there was probably not enough time for them to switch to a different carrier at that time. The Clinic and Cigna also notified Clinic patients just prior to the time we chose benefits. The Cleveland Clinic is not dropping Cigna, and Cigna is not dropping the Clinic. Your care from Cleveland Clinic doctors and hospitals will continue to be covered, but it will be covered at OUT OF NETWORK costs. You will have a much higher deductible and then after you meet the deductible, Cigna will pay 70% of the cost of care instead of 80%. You do not have to give up your healthcare providers. You will have to pay more for care, which is terrible, but that's how insurance works in a capitalist economy. Healthcare costs in America are astronomical, and Cigna wants to negotiate lower costs. If we had universal healthcare, this would not be an issue. Universal healthcare will likely never happen in the USA because many healthcare insurance carriers and ALL pharmaceutical companies are greedy and can influence politicians. That's how this is all working. I'm sure Progressive is doing all they can to influence the outcome of this mess, and I'll be surprised if they don't drop Cigna next year. So, squeeze in the appointments you can for now and hang in there until next year. Good luck to all of us!

It is ridiculous that this big hospital and cigna is having issues finding and agreement on employer sponsored plans! In our case its government job in a rural town! So disappointed they are not making this work

I have a heart condition that necessitates being seen by a "Center of Excellence" doctor . If I lose access to the Clinic, there are no other options in the state and I'd have to drive at least 300 miles to find one. This is no way to run a healthcare system, putting people's lives in jeopardy who have no reasonable recourse.

Agree with a lot of posters, I was required to select a healthcare provider in my annual enrollment in November. Then find out in January, Cigna is dropping Cleveland Clinic April 1st is essential fraud. I have a family member with stage 4 cancer and now I need to find a new provider?

The Cleveland Clinic is a tremendous healthcare provider. What bothers me is what about the patients who may be in the middle of cancer treatments. Sorry now you’re going to look elsewhere.
It’s Patients first at the Clinic hands down. This a major issue for everyone, and unbelievable that Cygna and the Clinic can think together, “patients, families, lives first!!!!

It is fraud for Cigna to list the Cleveland clinic as part of their in network hospitals with out telling people that the contract expires in April. We sing up for a year.If the coverage at the Cleveland clinic could only be good until April it should have been disclosed. In my opinion Cigna is committing fraud its a case of bate and switch. There should be a class action law suite. The department of Justice should investigate Cigna.

Even our primary who is a Cleveland provider wants them to continue with Cigna. His practice has about 50% cigna members. If Cleveland and Cigna do not work it out, they will be endangering a huge number of our locals as we will have to travel 30-45 miles to a hospital instead of 5.

This news is worrisome because my family has established health care with specialists at the Cleveland Clinic. To be told that my insurance provider may no longer apply at the largest health care provider in the area poses a threat to my family's well-being, from both physical and financial perspectives. I sincerely hope that both parties can come to an agreement and stop pushing "negotiation threats" onto consumers in the future.

I hope they don't drop Cigna, I received a letter about the negotiations and that if an agreement isn't reached we could possibly not be covered there.

However negotiations doesn't mean that they dropped Cigna yet....

I hope that you are right! We are in Florida and Cleveland Clinic has bought all our local hospitals in a tri-county area so we will be in big trouble if they don't come to an agreement!

Cigna is still in negotiations with Cleveland Clinic. I do not believe Cleveland Clinic will drop Cigna as it is such a huge group that would be affected. There are not enough healthcare providers out there without Cleveland clinic.

Cleveland puts this info out to scare patients in order to increase pressure onto Cigna. Why? Becuase theyre in the middle of negotiations with carriers. This happens ALL the time. Its a a tactic large medical groups and hospital groups use ( just like a union fights a city or employer group). 95% of the time, nothing happens.
