Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

YAY we survived the layoffs?

I haven't heard anything today. Last year the layoffs happened on Wed Jan 11. Nothing today. Are we safe now?

I think we are, but wanted to see what everyone thinks.

Re: new wave of layoffs will be announced in 2 weeks after Karthik TH

I dont think so, they wont tell that in TH. Most likely we are getting axed before that they wont announce that. Mostt likely Layoff, TH and new way measure performance of empoyees. In this order

Right, after his 30min TH…I don’t care anymore, we have been told over and over that they don’t have budget, so new hires are from Mexico, everyone takes more and more work but don’t expect any raise and promotions. I cannot take any additional work, yet they just keep piling up more on your plate…

A new wave of layoffs will be announced in 2 weeks after Karthik TH. He is going to explain the company's situation and downsizing once again

Re: "This is about return on investment and what it will take to make that happen."

Yes, it's all about ROI. That's why they brought Karthik in. They are relocating all positions from the US to India, and Karthik knows the ins and outs of Bangalore. He'll negotiate better deals with TCS, thereby increasing ROI.

Nielsen's ROI is negative because the leadership doesn't know how to enhance revenue by expanding the client base. On the contrary, Nielsen has been losing clients at an alarming rate.

Improved productivity increases ROI, but how could that happen when, all year round, all employees think about is whether they are next to be shown the door?

Agreed. Comparing layoff dates is silly.

Also, there are layoffs between the layoffs. Some happened in July others December. Unless you work with those individuals directly you would never know.

This is about return on investment and what it will take to make that happen. As witnessed by the wealth of talent that is no longer here.

I will also wait to be shown the door. Sad that it has come to this.

Comparing the layoffs to the exact date of last year is silly. It is almost certain that it will happen very soon however & I expect that we will know more in the next few weeks. Nielsen is in some real financial trouble & clients are moving away. I am over this because of my connections to Commercial. To be honest, I think many people will be made redundant this year. This year will be especially bad & much of the senior leadership, especially Karthik are absolutely dreadful. It has gotten to a point where I feel personally embarrassed to say that I work for Nielsen, because there is no pride in it at all. I'm a long term employee & will wait for the severance, as it's not worth my resigning just yet. Nonetheless, I will be somewhat relieved to put my Nielsen days behind me as I have zero faith in the company now.

Re: "I also understand the company is not doing good but we should be treated as humans."

It's not doing good because the big heads didn't see it coming. They aren't hired because they're the best and brightest. Someone erected them there.

No one knows the formula they're using to lay people off. Everything is shrouded in secrecy, why? because they know they're doing something that is not fair in the slightest.

Logically speaking, it should happen in the pay week. If its not happening this week next pay week if no layoffs happen till Karthik has monthly talk, we should be safe for at least two months. All this speculation, i am also scared, i am the only source of income to my family. I wish leadership would give assurance if its not happening. They keep everything a secret till last minute. I understand they will give severance but its not how you treat an employee who worked for you. I also understand the company is not doing good but we should be treated as humans. Atleast for me i have time to find another job, one of colleague who is an immigrant has 45 days to find a job or else he has to leave everything here within 45 days and go back to his home country, which he moved 10 years back. It su-ks but life has to move on. Whether they layoff or not its not the end.

Its just not today. It is happening. I was told the company is taking most of the positions offshore by a senior director.
