Thread regarding SAP layoffs

This is simply going to lead to people being unproductive

I think its outrageous and for anyone saying otherwise was not around in 2021 when they stated we would be allowed to WFH.Many have moved and bought places far from offices. In the Canadian economy were living in it's unaffordable to live nearby to cities with these SAP offices. Health will also be affected as eating at a restaurant 3x a week, even if paid by the company is not the best. Furthermore, they don't even have room for everyone to come in at the same time. So we'd go to the office with no monitors. This is simply going to lead to people being unproductive. I quote from the same CEO in 2021 "Our pledge to flex is another expression of our profound respect for our employees.". So what's happened since then that they have lost respect for us. Is this even legal to have let go of employees when they have stated previously an approval for all of us in black and white?

@nlg+1quROVMD hit the nail on the head.

Since the company leadership really has no clue as to how to transition a company with 111,000 employees to a majority Cloud based company in 2 years where it will not need any where close to this number of employees and even today it is entirely staffed to support the on prem business with such headcount, they came up with this idea to force people out of the company and go to other companies who very happily offer WFH and reduce our own HC.

If we had real leadership we would focus our future business on what has made this company successful for the last 50 years which is our On Prem business and let everybody else chase the low margin/high turnover business which is what the Cloud is all about.

Clearly, RTO is a great idea, meant to boost productivity... I mean, what's better for productivity than having your employees spend 2 hours in the morning and then another 2 in the evening withering away in traffic on either I-75 outside Atlanta or the Blue Route?

There is a misunderstanding here. The main reason that companies allowed for Flex is because many people were still scared to be in the office. Now the fear is mostly gone and everybody needs to get back to work and start collaborating with colleagues at the office.

WFH and moving is always at your own risk. Corporate promises are empty unless in writing. Never move away from areas where the jobs are unless you are financially independent.

Friends, this directive to RTO is all about reducing HC before the next layoff is implemented and nothing to do with internal collaboration, efficiency, etc.

Leadership wants to get as many as possible to leave the company on voluntary basis ( their own initiative) with no severance package so that the impending layoff encompasses less than it would have without these departures. It's a bad signal to the market to have two very large layoffs in 3 years.

I am convinced that this is the plan from Renjen so that as much as possible by way of bad news is out of the way by the time he assumes Chairman role. I would not be surprised to see the closure/consolidation of offices coming up as well.
