Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Is this silly to resign now?

I am on my last leg. I am very competent with my job but the leadership is so toxic and every day is soul crashing. My colleague advise me to wait a couple of months but I am not sure if the suffer is worth it.
Seeking advice and thank you.

I understand. You have a high work ethic and it can be difficult to simply quit, especially if you don’t have a job lined up. In regards to the comment that stated you need a higher paying job…that may not be the case. Mental wellbeing can pay dividends but you need to know the minimum salary you can receive to meet your financial responsibilities and goals.

Toxic is a perfect explanation for what is happening right now.

I am sure its not a life or death situation.
If we were living in Ukraine or Gaza we'd have something to complain about!

How do you quietly quit in a toxic environment? It’s called adulting. You just do it. The entire world is filled with toxic people. I can 99% guyot your next job will have toxic people.

You literally just go to work each day and keep looking for something that is less toxic.

Trust me, being unemployed is so much worse and employers will low ball you any job offers if you are not working, they don’t pay as much to people who are unemployed because you are viewed as no one wants you.

Sounds like what you need is a vacation. Take one. And then get back to work and quietly quit. It’s not that difficult.

If you don’t want to go through the stress and want to avoid exposure to the toxic environment, you can consider quitting, given your buffer savings.
Nothing stands above mental peace.

Going on 20+ years at Citi and know your pain, albeit quitting without income is a unwise decision. The year is early. Wait until Citi shuffles the organization and then see where you fit in. It is hard to see but if you are a good performer and management is on your side, possibly you will given more.

Yes it's silly without a job lined up but people are pretty silly at this place. If you have the money, I guess you can do silly things. Might as well take a 6 month trip around the world.

Never quit your job. You’d have to be really stupid to leave without having a better paying job lined up.

Quiet quitting is the new trend. Show up, mail it in. Keep looking for a better job. Never complain.

Good luck.

I am op. No, I only started to apply for jobs this week, and my saving can support me for one year.
In my situation, when is the best time to resign? I don't think they will make me redundant. Thank you.

You need to provide more details.
Do you have another job lined up? Are you independently wealthy? If not: Yes, you are crazy to resign now.
