EQT AB and KKR & Co. (KKR) are among private equity firms interested in purchasing a software business being sold by Broadcom (NASDAQ:AVGO) after its purchase of VMware.

PE firm Thoma Bravo is also studying a potential offer for the so-called end-user computing unit, according to a Bloomberg report, which cited people familiar with the matter. The unit may be valued at about $5 billion, including debt.

The report comes after Business Insider first reported in late November that Broadcom (AVGO) was evaluating strategic alternatives for two business units it acquired when it purchased VMware for $69 billion. The company confirmed on its earnings call last month that it planned to divest the end-user computing and Carbon Black businesses.

The Carbon Black security software businesss may be valued at about $1 billion, including debt, according to the Bloomberg report.

VMware purchased Carbon Black for an enterprise value of $2.1 billion in 2019.

EUC is hiring. That means that they need to be able to work as a standalone company after the sell. That points directly to a PE and not to another vendor. Anyway, I’m still in awe that it’s taking HT that much time to sell it, tbh.

EUC can find a better home where they would be safe to innovate they will achieve even better results than staying at the sinking ship.

Silver Lake has a lot of cash now, plus they had declared plans to sell AVGO stock. That should be good for a dozen EU seas.

"A PE is buying EUC before mid year. They will squeeze hard to make them profitable."

I agree, this is an inevitable outcome. Why? The legacy UEM and VDI software market is not attractive to anyone other than PE or another legacy vendor that wants to extract profit from the installed base. In contrast, the potential new EUC Workspace growth will come from smaller SaaS streaming app vendors that have offerings at lower per-user price points and less IT management complexity.

Some VMware large enterprise customers will stay with on-prem and some cloud apps, until they decide on a better solution. Remember, most of these CIOs are not innovative.

Meanwhile, expect Microsoft to grab more market share with their Intune Suite.

A PE is buying EUC before mid year. They will squeeze hard to make them profitable. If you think it was Google or a big player dream on.
