Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Are you ready?

I'm in inside sales, 115k w/ 8 YOE and >50 years old in the US.

I have a feeling I'll be let go in this round. I haven't heard anything from my manager that makes me think so but I have a gut feeling. Are you ready if you get tapped on the shoulder? For me, it will be more of a mental impact than a financial one. I've made a lot of financial descisions in the last 6 months that put me in a better position. I'm not rich but semi-prepared and had a feeling this would happen.

I believe I was targeted for high salary(120k) and age(50+) as well. That was OK. I stuck it out for a year or more after being given my first PIP!! in a 35 year career in high tech! I retired the next year at 55 - which was planned. The rage quitting was very therapeutic. Be foreworned - Dell does not compensate for comp or vacation days when at end of employment. Use them or lose em

I was born ready... If you don't have any other useful life skills besides computers you're setting yourself up for failure. I've never stressed a layoff, if its meant to be its meant to be.

I was never laid off in my life. I am 53. How likely is to be laid off in the next 10 years?

they will make it as hard as possible to make money and force attrition.

That actually makes sense. If I were MD I would do exactly this and I would save money on layoff compensations.. Good thinking MD! Now replace everyone in DELL with AI agents and the turnover plan will be complete!

No layoffs will happen.
100% guaranteed.
What will happen is they will make it as hard as possible to make mondey and force attrition.
Moral is low and customers are tired of the turnover of accounts but with this management things wont get and better.
AI is the new buzz word and that is all it will be with Dell as they are late to the game as usual.
The plans will change next quarter and the quarter after that as Dell has no long term strategy.

"When are notices being scheduled?"

  • They always go out the first week of the start of the half

"im not worried I'm young and work at Dell"

  • You are young enough to be arrogant enough to think your age protects you. They don't care about your age, they care about how much money they can save by laying you off. If you salary matches your age, then you are probably safe.

"I'm in inside sales, 115k w/ 8 YOE and >50 years old in the US."

  • Probably not high enough in the comp scale yet to be too worried. Wait until you are above $150k then you have a greater chance of getting hit.

With that salary? Oh you know it.

If you feel that your layoff is coming, your gut instinct is absolutely right unfortunately. I've been laid off before and I had the same feeling before. If your manager isn't giving you new assignments or your responsibilities haven't changed, that's definitely a red flag.

I am 57 and am so ready. Not as much financially but mentally as I am exhausted from working here.
