Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Think customers will leave the VMware world?

Extended contracts are expensive, but they are being purchased. One big customer has extended support until December 2024 for 6.7 and 6.5 vSphere. Ancient NSX versions. But "do not advise customer to upgrade."

And these are the customer's that are going to leave? Octane has them by the b*lls.

Think customers will leave the VMware world?

Many smaller customers will have no choice but to leave.

Same here ! :)
I left VMware by Broadcom (I hate this name!) too.
The new company I work for now is going full cloud. They will start removing VMware Clusters very soon. There are interesting times ahead.

I think vmware will become less and less relevant.

And this is why avgo is bîtchslapping customers who don’t have the ability to get off the VMware stack.

Milk the VMware cow, then find another old cow.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

I left VMware recently and I was actually hired to help ripping out VMware and go full cloud native. Their contract is 20m+ a year licenses alone (no idea about support) and I am sure this isn't the only place. Luckily when the acquisition was announced, I worked on k8s and got every CK* exam under the sun.

I really struggled to get (good paid) jobs that were related to the vmware eco system, which showed me how companies moving on.

I think vmware will become less and less relevant.

Keep in mind the typical enterprise CIO is fearful of change due to the perceived risk to them personally, so many will choose to stay with VMware's legacy solutions for the near term.

There's a good reason why CEOs frequently replace their current CIO. However, while their replacement talks about delivering better IT solutions during the interview process, many will never follow through with anything that would be considered innovative.

This is precisely why Broadcom Software acquired laggards like CA and Symantec.

We're trying to. We use EXSI nodes and it's a tech debt we want to get rid of. There's so much open source tech out there to help you orchestrate containers.

In regards to the value of VMware, I think Hock is just feeling the wind where the industry is heading.

I would expect all partners who were terminated and not "allowed" to return and any end customers priced out to tell BC to F off. Why would they send $$$$ to attend an event from a company who told you to pi-s off?
