Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

Guilty pleasure

I survived many layoffs at Micron, left before the last big one. So I did not collect the package.
I am so much better off out of Micron professionally and personally. Out of Boise trap as well :)
But seems like I am so traumatized by working there that I keep coming to this site to read people’s stories/news.
My advice, keep applying elsewhere and once you get something genuinely better, do not hesitate, move on.
Unless you belong to one of the privileged circles of buddies in Micron you stand no chance. You will know if you do.

Remember the poker rule.
“ If you’ve been in the game 30 minutes and you don’t know who the patsy is, you’re the patsy.”

And do not get get me wrong, I would go back to Micron, if there is a serious enough offer from the correct person.

"The class action laws suites are ready to hit. Exposure to chemical they can't document after the chambers are expose to atmosphere..... "

Probably a lot of opertunity for the Lithography technicians to discuss the TMAH exposure they endured over the years

How can some people get away with not working hard and move up the leadership chain while others can't get ahead no matter how hard they work?

It’s impressive how malevolent some of the people who make it to the top are

Good ol' Boys club will always exist, names and faces will certainly change, but it's still there.

The good-old-boy (G-B) network is shrinking, but still exists and the longer you stay at Micron it will become apparent to you who is in it. That said the G-B is shrinking. What you need a M3 and M4 that will stand up and fight to keep you safe. It helps if they are a G-B but not as necessary as it was 10 years ago as the uppermost leaders are now Sanjay picks not the GOBs from 20 years ago. Not too many high level managers will push back if your name shows up on a cut list from upper management or HR.
Here are some tips:

  • Keep hour head down, shut up and work more than everyone else.
  • Answer all surveys as if your name is attached to it, because it is.
  • Always agree with leadership.
  • Keep you top balance around 100 hours. Outstanding TOP is a cost on the books.
  • Don't get old. Yes age discrimination is illegal but Micron protects themselves with the severance agreement. If you want severance pay you must explicitly wave you protection under the Age Discrimination Act. Yes, it is specifically called out. That is how blatant Micron is when it comes to unethicaly purging the over 40 workers.
  • Micron is self insured for healthcare in the US. If you can avoid it don't use Micron for you health insurance. Major medical costs hit Micron's bottom line directly. Use you spouse's coverage if it is an option.
  • Don't fight for pay increases. You are way better off being the lowest payed top performer in your GJS. Ony fight for the promotion if you are at the top of your GJS pay range. It is way better to be top preformer at the bottom of the pay bracket.
