No store closures
No credible HR involvement in any corporate departments
No announcements
So, what gives?

Hi! to the writer regarding not knowing spring budgets I can this with you. Our department budget for spring was done extremely late, and sure how far down the chain it truly made it yet. They asked to cut 1M from our department, so many projects were would be done at a lower quality in order to crunch the numbers.
BUT...the week before thanksgiving out of no where they then gave back 600K and said all photography would be returning to full face !?!
I found that very odd after a major squeeze to clip numbers, we received that much back!?
I realized today, as much as its scary, as much as I NEED my check, I have been very unhappy. Regardless of the outcome I have decided to start looking because I want a better quality of life. I have been with the company just a little over 10yrs.
I feel like inventory is s week later than last year and store closing announcements are usually right before inventory so just keep reticketing
They want the stores to keep re-ticketing and cleaning before the announcement next week.
I can't believe they would have the closing stores put in man hours for inventory prep, only to be told 2 days before you are closing..... Really?
Spring 24 headcount budgets come out on the 16th.
I’m going to guess store closures will be announced next Wednesday since this is the first inventory not on the first Thursday that I can remember in awhile.
If we get through next Thursday (inventory) with no store closure announcement, I’ll be a firm believer a sale is imminent. There’s no way we don’t close some of our poorly performing stores in dead malls.
The layoff announcements will not be made until the end of the fiscal year. They will not announce layoffs before the physical inventory and the inventory reconciliation are complete.
The layoffs will be the departing gift from JG. Jeffrey has been useless since day one.
Hopefully the door will hit this jerk on his way out.
I have not seen any announcement on store closures today?????
You need to take a deep breath over there.
Even if this person told you what department they were in, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re being cut. I have heard rumors from reliable sources about job cuts, and I also saw mention of digital in another thread, but my gut tells me that we’ll see a good amount of the cuts be open positions that are “waiting to be filled”. We haven’t seen big layoffs since 2020, but as someone else mentioned it really depends on what Tony’s vision and strategy is going to be on how we move forward.
Dude who keeps saying “HR has been in my area” just fu--ing say what area it is and what’s happening. Your sh-t stirring fear mongering is just rude and you’re playing with people’s livelihoods. If I lose my job my family loses their house, still think it’s okay to fu-k around with the information you have???
To be fair, 2020 was unlike anything ever before. There was a lot that went into figuring out how to survive so yeah probably spot on because things kept changing and information kept flowing. To expect that anyone on this site actually knows when and how layoffs are coming and is sitting on this site vaguely reporting on it, doesn’t sound too plausible. Once things actually start happening I bet there will be information to be shared, but right now everything is a conspiracy theory. I think what’s more concerning is that in some corporate areas the budgets that they need for next year haven’t been disclosed, and certain work can’t be done or planned for without any capital decisions. that’s what is worrying me that maybe something worse is going on behind closed doors.
As someone else commented, this site was good during furlough and the early part of covid. Since it's been mostly rumors.
I wouldn't be surprised if Macy's does start closing lower performing stores. But unless there's major news regarding the possible acquisition, I dont expect anything will be announced till the week of quarterly earnings in early February, or late January at the earliest .
It’s still really early for job cuts. In stores the spring budget wont be announced yet. For the past few years they haven’t cut even with the reduced budgets, just meet budget through attrition. For any restructuring or cuts at the corporate level that wouldn’t happen until end of January.
That is not true! HR has not even began implementing Any layoffs. Once again, someone trying to stoke fear into us.
@1qpt+1qoVVtjL it depends on your definition of mass layoffs. Layoffs are going to happen this year, and HR has been in my area. I will confirm that we are making cuts, and I know we are not the only ones.
I read a “leaked” list of 9 stores closing.
Surprised it was this few and we cannot confirm the accuracy. They said it would be released TOMORROW (1/4). So stay tuned!
In 2020 during the shutdown this site was spot on towards the end. SPOT. ON
I know there alot of circles, theories, rumors, speculations , but its def not all falsehoods.
You have store & corporate here, therefore voices & comments vary widely
I think this site is FULL of falsehoods, by sick individuals who are seeking to upset people. Absolutely, none of this is true. There will not be MASS layoffs! I hope this site gets shut down!
It doesn’t have anything to do with inventory. G-B doors don’t do inventory. It’s ALWAYS the first Wednesday of January. The fact that it has not happened is unprecedented and should be of great concern. My bet is, buyout is immanent, holding pattern for not until BIG changes on close of sale. Then, who knows….
@1fgh+1qoVVtjL inventory was on 1/5/23 last year, it’s a week delayed this year occurring on 1/12/24. If this is the “normal playbook”, it fell on the Wednesday immediately before inventory last year on 1/4. It’s most likely going to be announced on 1/11 if that’s the case. I’ve heard that stores will be closing from reliable sources, but I didn’t press for specifics as it wasn’t the appropriate place to do so.
The 2024 G-B playbook has a timeline and G-B process would start Wednesday with G-B sale starting Sunday… can’t believe they would wait until next Wednesday when its so close to inventory
@fpf+1qoVVtjL I find it hard to believe some stores were told and not one person from one of those stores came here or went to the media with it. These things spread like wildfire, they’re going to be very synchronized when they do it.
To be fair, whoever buys us for the real estate isn’t going to be interested in any stores we’re about to close.
If we don’t hear of any store closures before inventory, I would say it’s a pretty done deal that we’re selling the company.
For at least the last dozen years or so, store closings have ALWAYS been announced on this first Wednesday of January, like clock-work. For it to not happen means something extraordinary is happening. Just have to wait and see.
I do know from a reliable source, that store closures, at least we're slotted to be announced today. Why that did not happen, I don't know? Possibly not all stores have been informed of closures? G.O.B. is supposed to begin on Sunday in these stores. Well, maybe they sold us, who knows! This is crazy!
Corporate cuts are coming later this month, who said they were coming today?
That's what I said in other threads today and they kept claiming days not over lol.. it's all a joke this website
