Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

When will RIFs start?

We know they are coming, but when will Qualcomm grace us with the first layoff round of 2024? I say before the end of the month.

Layoff already started for Google and Amazon in January. More companies will follow.

If there will be layoffs, I am perfectly fine with large cut. Small cut means only hardworking people suffer. The ones who are in good relationships with management always stay regardless how poorly their performance is. If large cut comes, maybe these brown nosers and even these incompetent managers will be cut too. The sad news is we all have to look for jobs, and I may end up working with these leeches again.

A wise man once said "The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior."

There is no doubt Qcom is aggressively moving labor to "lower cost centers" (India, Mexico...). Thus, layoffs will be common place in '24. You have 2 choices:

  • Seek employment elsewhere
  • Stay and take your chances and, if laid off, hope the layoff package doesn't diminish.

Best of luck to all.

Q mgmt has tasted blood - easy money saving by moving work to India. They will keep su-king blood out of US engineering. If there is any indication of an earning miss they will not hesitate to move engg. again to India and layoff in US. It will happen this year the only question is when.

In MST , there are no RIFs since they are actually hiring! I've heard people who were let go are being offered junior positions with a "promise" from the manager to push for promotions during next review. Usual dirty games played by MST top and middle management.

OP, really impatient aren't you? I guess filled with nostalgia as people have stopped talking about layoffs at work?
