Thread regarding VMware layoffs

So happy I declined

Assuming some of the comments here are legitimately made by Broadcom employees, I am relieved that I made the right decision to decline my offer and take the package. I could not FATHOM driving an hour each way to sit in a cubicle next to racists, homophobes, xenophobes and mysogynists. The Epic2 culture at VMware may have SEEMED "woke" to the MAGA crowd, but by and large, VMware was sincerely inclusive, environmentally conscious and supported "Citizen philanthropy, not just by matching and granting donations, but encouraging employees to take time off to serve causes and communities. The difference between a mensch like Pat Gelsinger and Hock Tan could not be more stark. I may never find another employer like VMware again, but I take great pride in having been part of one of the best examples that corporations can do GOOD and do WELL at the same time. Employees, customers and partners were all stakeholders, and not just shareowners.

That there was a real cost to all of this cost-cutting.

Not a cost to the shareholders. Shower me with money Hock-man and milk VMware dry.

Hock will take his EBITDA and shove it up your áss if you don’t get back to work.

“ Hock’s EDITDA improvements will be massive and beyond any conception of ex-VMware leaders. I bet most of them don’t even know what the acronym means.”

Something tells me you don’t know what the acronym EBITDA means either……………

Hock’s EDITDA improvements will be massive and beyond any conception of ex-VMware leaders. I bet most of them don’t even know what the acronym means.

It's EBITDA (not EDITDA) - Earnings Before Depreciation, Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization and it's a very crude, inaccurate estimate of cash flow that leaves a lot of cash expenditures out. Hock's version is nothing new. It was employed by "Chainsaw" Al Dunlap and "Neutron" Jack Welch. In both cases, it was discovered years later that all was not what it seemed. That there was a real cost to all of this cost-cutting.

Ha! Hock is nowhere close to the ex-VMware leaders.

100% agree. VMware leaders had same strategy but zero execution other than their boys club armies due to needing numbers to support their zero clue on strategy execution. It’s all rather shameful .

If you can’t see this I feel sorry for you.

Ha! Hock is nowhere close to the ex-VMware leaders.

He is a mercenary that executes and makes a shít load of money.

Ex-VMware leaders are like teletubbies who make funny noises and don’t know what money is all about.

Hock’s EDITDA improvements will be massive and beyond any conception of ex-VMware leaders. I bet most of them don’t even know what the acronym means.

VMware leadership had exactly same motives and strategy as BC. Only diff is they were too weak to let you know up front. So they told you what you want to hear and did what they want anyway ( which was largely building their boys club armies). If you can’t see this I feel sorry for you.

The VMware board are paid stooges of Dell and SilverLake, those two entities controlled all of VMware. Their goal, like Hock, is to make money. Though they operate behind the scenes and don’t go out of their way to act like a di-k - unlike the Hock man.

All hail Hock!

In reality the company never cared about you, any ideals you think they uphold, or the product they make. I worked at Qualcomm during the time BCM tried to acquire them. The company did all they could to fight off the acquisition, even going all the way to President to get the deal ki-led. On the other hand, on top of the board doing nothing to get the deal ki-led, this wokest government knows how woke VMware is, how un-woke BCM, but still let the deal through.

Now is a good time for VMware customers to plan on migrating away from VMware products. You will not get the level of support going forward or R&D to fix issues. Those personal have left or will be leaving and will not be replaced.

that corporations can do GOOD and do WELL at the same time

If that were true, VMware would be encouraging many of their customers to get off their products. Great technology, but it's overused in a container world.

Yeah right, and the result of all VMware's DEI virtue signaling? Being bought by a much more efficiently run company.

Sounds like BCM values productivity. OTOH, VMware sounds like place with a lot of virtue signaling. Probably a top heavy company.

Best of luck to you. I wished I took the severence offer, but BC was not clear on what the severance would at the time they send out letters.

If you are skilled enough to find another job, then you will be much better off and happy outside of Broadcom. This company is only for people who are retiring and poorly skilled people who just sit and work the way they are told too.
