Thoughts? Any Gannett layoffs? Any chatter, news or rumors?

Getting laid off by Gannett was one of the best things that ever happened to me and the timing was just perfect. It was a good run and I got a nice severance package. Not too many people can say they were happy to get laid off, but I was and I'm living the dream a year later not working in a dying industry. Advice to management: cut your middle management staff (way too many middle managers) and keep your worker bees. Not only can you save money faster by axing fewer bodies, but the worker bees are the folks that get the actual work done.
Too many middle managers here who are clueless. Many of them laying off employees to compensate for mistakes made by the people firing employees. This company would be better served getting bought and cleaned out of incompetent managers who talk up empathy while failing to show that they have any.
Know someone in a tech role that got hit with this. Was told it was due to change in direction of the company and not based on his performance at all. Two days later a new guy starts with his exact job title.
Heard there was another one yesterday, 03/21/2024.
They butchered Engineering today. Folks from AppOps were laid off in today's round.
2/15/24 RIF has occurred. Position eliminations. No idea how many affected. Gut feeling… It’s going to be a tough year.
Our Goals were due to HR today. This is what the head of our department wrote and told us to submit. "Manage significant change across teams to ensure productivity, accuracy and quality continue to meet high standards. Help staff have a sense of security, belonging and purpose while navigating consistent chaos and change around them."
That should tell you how this year is going to go.
Surely with all of the recent layoffs in the media, Gannett can't be far behind. I'm hoping for a buyout or severance package frankly.
