ABB's Robotics and Discrete Automation division, formerly known as B&R Automation, had substantial layoffs in the United Sales, resulting in a substantial shakeup. Per ABB's Q1 financial results from last year, comparable orders declined sharply by 30%, which is described as the root cause.
Layoffs included over 20 people, from an organization that only had about 240 people, from across the organization, and there's also voluntary resignation to US-based project management team. Several technical application engineers are being moved into sales-facing roles to make up for the losses to the front line. Morale is low, and legal action is threated against employees who disclose the layoffs.
When an organization is phasing out, key people are leaving, because they knew it.
