so if i have RSUs and get laid off can I opt for more RSUs instead of bonux and severance?

No. Your RSUs are gone after your last day of employment. Wasted.
If you have the option of getting RSUs instead of a bonus or salary, I would take the bonus or salary. Why? Cause RSUs have a vesting date (like a maturity date), so if you are laid off on Feb 1st 2024 and the RSUs don't vest (or mature) until Feb 2nd 2024, the RSUs are worthless to you cause you are not an employee of the company on the date the RSUs vest (or mature). Therefore, take the bonus and/or salary.

I doubt if the company would offer that option, but ask your HR. Remember, RSUs have to be vested (before you get off the companies payroll) else they are worthless (has zero value).
