Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Mechanical Department will be thing if past

Unfortunately this company is looking to run bare minimum on mech department. This is one department that the contract doesn’t do as much justice for the craft. Get prepared mechanical, it’s coming. Not tomorrow but be prepared. Contractors will be taking care of it and shops, be prepared, it’s going to happen

Retired after 42 years and this is what I've seen. 5 man train crews down to two. Furloughed clerks driving crew buses. Shut down both wheel shops and scabbed work out. Eliminated all pipefitters and supervisors. Shut down several shops and yards. And all this was done with the unions not being able to stop it! It all comes down to it's their company and they will do what they want. Su-ks but true.

Sounds expensive. I guess just a different bucket of funds to make another number look good. Sounds like a number crunchers wet dream.

We all believe were needed, until we aren’t. Ask yourself why your needed and what other options can be done if you were gone.

Bring it on I’m tired of working nights and weekends and every damn holiday after 15 years. I’ll move on and these high seniority guys who whine all the time can cover the off shifts and holidays with Tuesday Wednesday off.

Look at your numbers, mechanical dept numbers have steadily declined. It will never be a complete empty department but your numbers are going to continue declining, especially in early 2024. Call it a troll or whatever you need too feel better but in the end, you’ll see who was just trolling.

Be prepared for what? We've heard this story about eliminating the mech. dept. for a while now. The last time I checked, many people are still there.

  • What exactly is there to “prepare” for? Go find another job if you’re this paranoid….Go and hire on with one of these scab contractors if your so sure that they are taking over…Get ahead of the game….
