Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Is it really that dysfunctional in your department?

Why are there 2 or 3 people chasing me down almost every month to complete my training or to get project updates? Why do we need 5 SVPs to track whether consent order work is on time? Why is my boss asking the team on how we can improve the PM process? You got how many MDs, Ds, and SVPs in the department who are paid $$$$ and you're asking C11s and C12s for input on how we can improve the process. I've only been at Citi for 1.5 years but just shocked that a company that's been around for this long does not have a good process and governance in place. It looks like a work in-progress but with no real accountability on making improvements. And then there's the people they hire who can't understand English or follow simple instructions that you need to show them how to do something or just do it yourself. Some of these people are 1 to 2 levels above me. Just shaking my head on the talent level of the employees. Can we not attract talented people are are they hired because of friends or referrals and we just settle with what we have?

Just ranting here but just shocked on how a company can operate like this.

Is it really that dysfunctional in your department?

RE: Post ID: @2bse+1qhEJZVW Your post: "I should be given a do nothing fluff role with an impressive title and I should be given public accolades on how great I’m doing for visibility." ERM already has this in place. You should get a job there. Everyone has a big head and an inflated sense of themselves. Let us, this forum, know when ERM gives you a Royal Sinecure Title and Undeserved High Salary just like everyone else in ERM. ERM always eats up and burns through Citi's budget and expenses. It's a gas guzzler. Thank you for keeping us apprised.

@ylj+1qiCoJaO -- I agree 100% with your post. Why hire people to help make things better and then don't listen to people.

Post ID: @1eup+1qiCoJaO Not all the citi employees are managers here. Many of them still have hands on and talented than the so called “vendors”, you people just do politics politics politics and won’t allows citi employees to do their job. If vendors let go, and citi employees will really get good opportunity to do their work.

In Citi , every one is a manager. No one is hands-on or ready to do the job.
Most US employees just spend their time with offshore calls and talking with Vendor consultants.

If you let go vendor consultants and offshore consultants then the real picture of these guys will be shown. You will see the real "working faces" of employees.
you can conduct layoff after that or these "impotent" employees will leave by themselves.

The insanity is this…they hire knowledgable people for out of the box fresh new thinking.
When presented with new ideas, “nah, we don’t want to do that. We do but we want the ideas to conform to the Citi way. So new ideas but they need to be the Citi way. So, whatcha got.”

The problem is they won’t listen to the ones that have the knowledge that they hire…

Completely agree! The redundant follow-ups for basic tasks is way over the top. I’ve had to create special folders for repeat offenders or mute those who create massive chats on Teams who are supplying nothing I do not already know. My MD even makes up meaningless tasks and has his EA chase people around.

Don’t get me started on governance. Amazing how much redundancy exists and the unwillingness to listen to outsiders before they roll out their “improvements”. I tried when I started for the first two years. Going into my third and looking to return back to more the firms I came from.

Very much dysfunctional, and as I said by OP too many SVP’s and contracting resources are chasing down the same updates for the same item. Too many meetings and less productive works. SVPs won’t follow up on the requests C13ns make. And putting the work pending for longer time and C13s have to take the blame for the incompetence caused by top management.

The biggest problem are the many incompetent managers and higher ups. Most are clueless and more worried of pleasing their boss than managing their team.

Lately, managers are aloof or indiferent to basic decency for their employees. They ignore IMs, emails, and skip meetings they have scheduled. Perhaps they know the sh!t show coming. It is hard to imagine how will Citi pivot for the better after the cuts. Employee morale and trust are gone.
