Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Job search

Folks who were laid off in November, how is your job search going? Is the job market as bad as I think or were you able to land somewhere without too many issues? If any of you still check this board occasionally (I know I would), will you please share, just so the rest of us know what to expect?

I was laid off on Nov 1. Started searching for a job Nov 3rd and was offered a position on Nov 23. In my third week and I’m still shocked at how different this company treats their employees. Good luck to those still left at Staples

Severance for Canadians is three times what the states got paid. Enjoy your paid time. Take the time and find a better job with another company. And don’t worry if that doesn’t work out, maybe you can move to the states with Staples. Even if you don’t have the experience, that may be the future trend for recruiting. There will be a mass exodus.

I was let go in November, mid narket inside AM after 40 years of continuous employment, I need a break. Hopefully I can get some ei going, I did see Staples is hiring in Halifax, not sure if this is a partner or actual staples, laughable though. https://g.co/kgs/yAB71k

I haven't had any luck. I customize my resume for each role I apply to but haven't even gotten a phone interview. I've tried reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn as well, that hasn't helped either. Just going to keep trying, hopefully something will come along.

Well said and great advice! Staples was your past. The future so much brighter somewhere else. The company stopped caring about their people or their customers many many years ago. Pre SP and JL has taken it down a path that they can never come back from. It will sell or go bankrupt and those that remain best of luck!

I was laid off. I took the entire month of November to do house projects and spend time with friends and family. I applied to exactly one place on December 1st, and got my official offer with a start date, this morning.

The new paint job pays a little less than my base was at Staples, but the commission structure is actually attainable and really good. Most people in my new position are meeting quota. So I should make more money.

I just followed all the LinkedIn advice around resume writing and reaching out to a recruiter for the position listed and landed the first one I applied for.

I figured if I don’t like this new position, I can look when the job market is a little more stable. But this works for the time being, and who knows, I may love it.

Good luck on your search. Definitely get on LinkedIn and tailor that resume to every position you apply for. Reach out to the recruiter, if they are listed on the position. Enjoy the holidays and try to remember you are a valuable asset to a company, even if staples didn’t think so!
