Thread regarding VMware layoffs

VMware Technical Support

ex-CA now with Broadcom chiming in

So what's going on in the world of VMware technical support?

Have they asked a lot of you to stay? Transition? Straight layoffs?

What is the general VMware technical support situation right now?

The talk is that support will be outsourced very soon. Managers are working on that and have been asked to not say a word about it. With all three in the bucket now, CA / Symantec and Vmware. it's getting really expensive for hock. Anyone with a little bit of common sense would understand, why will someone pay so much for support engineers, when the same work can be done in less than half the price when outsourced.

Initially Hock didn't have the volumes for any vendor to take over. Now that he has the volumes, it will not be long before we all go.

Will there be more layoffs in support?

Mostly everyone got an offer.
Some centres like Costa Rica and Egypt shutting down.
US and APJ colleagues mostly accepted new offers, however many opted for voluntary redundancy in Ireland. Attrition is quite bad in support like you would expect.

Large amount of customers will be redirected to partner support, GS will be dealing with top accounts only going ahead.

Are you new around here or just out of hibernation.

They kept almost all of support. And they had the gall to tell us how lucky we were.

Then they told us to work weekends, work holidays, etc.
