Thread regarding VMware layoffs

There is hope

At the moment it is all doom and gloom here.

I want to share a bit of good news & I know this is going to get a load of down votes!

I decided to decline the Ireland offer letter (not once but twice thank you Hock!) and spent the past few weeks worried I made the wrong decision, until today, I got an offer letter for a company that has added around 20% onto my salary.

So anyone out there that's declined the offer letter or that's going to (looking at you UK) keep your heads up high! There is work out there for everyone and any company will be lucky to get an ex VMware engineer.

Thanks for sharing a positive story. We need it in the UK right now, everyone is so low. Did you say you declined the BC offer and they came back with another one? I’d not decline in the hope of that but I wouldn’t say no on more time to decide or receive an external offer to be honest with you

In the US here. Also declined an offer and got 10% more in pay with a new employer who treats its employees with decency. Oh and WFH and Hybrid are allowed. Just don’t get discouraged. There are many options out there. Don’t sell yourself short.

Your wrong again. In fact I declined the second offer. Its untrue to say that the people who decided to stay lack confidence. That is a d-mb comment, and you have been wrong twice. Dummy.

I declined on Monday as soon as I received my insult, 2 interviews this week with a verbal offer to start my new role on the 18th March, hopefully offer letter should arrive today.

Same salary, car allowance, 28 days leave and a golden handshake of stock vesting over 2 years.

To the person who commented "what a stupid comment". The fact that you took time to make that comment on a comment you thought was stupid does not make you any smarter. Let me guess, you were stupid enough to take the 20+% cut and is praying every night that the promised RSUs don't lose value and you stay long enough to cash in.

Good for you and and an up vote for me since hearing news of people being paid what they are worth is always a cause to celebrate. Glad not all folks who turned down the offer got the shaft, but still su-ks to see some many other great employees and colleagues leave or leaving over the next few weeks and months though. Anyway, good luck in your new role!

Many people who gave in and accept offers with 20%+ pay cut are those who lack confidence in their ability to do better.

What a stupid comment.

Best of luck in your new role. I'll be taking some time after leaving on the 23rd but look forward to getting back in the work place later in the year.

I’m pleased for you mate! And you are right, there are opportunities out there, all I would say to those who are nervous about jumping off after a long tenure - be bold and don’t take the first thing that comes along, find something that will really bring you job satisfaction. Good luck!
