Pine Bluff was a separate entity from Little Rock. When UP decided to furlough Pine Bluff, it all of a sudden became a service unit of Little Rock, hence UP was able to skirt the WARN act. Pine Bluff had a different union than Little Rock but the union could care less about the union members.

It doesn't matter to me. I don't work for the railroad anymore. Got tired of the daily sc--wings and after my 2nd layoff got my degree and now I don't have to put up with toxic type work environments anymore.

When UP essentially closed Pine Bluff in Feb 2019, they furloughed around 60 mechanical people. All we received was 5 days pay with 4 months of medical. Not sure where the rumor came from that if you get furloughed you get 4 months pay. I highly doubt that is true as UP doesn't have the best track record of taking their employees welfare into consideration.

You need to talk to a lawyer to see if you have a case for violation of the WARN act in your state.

Personally, I was on my scheduled day off and when my director called me to inform me that I was furloughed, I told him I already knew. He seemed bothered that I knew I was getting furloughed before he was able to tell me himself. That was the 2nd time UP furloughed me (2015 was the first) and both times I was on my scheduled day off.

Y’all that are saying “wait for the furlough you’ll get more” don’t understand, if the senior man waits for the furlough he is sc--wing the junior man that may be able to hang in if the senior man goes. It’s all about railroad retirement. If you don’t have people paying in, the whole thing about retirement at 60 & 30 is out the door.

Does not really matter if the junior guy is able to hang in there. The Junior guy will not see retirement at the rate of layoffs that is going on every year.

You are right on people paying into RR retirement. 60/30 will not exist in the next few years because too many people did not make it to retirement. So the money in the retirement system will not be enough to cover everyone that is retiring because not enough people are paying into it. Very similar to social security.

Blacks are resigning harder than the Latinos.
Now thats bad! White employees are bailing soon as they have jobs elsewhere.
UP is going to be in trouble.
Two heavy trains tied down and no crews available

There’s not enough left in mechanical.. To be a “mass” layoff..

This is absolutely true. The issue with you moro_’s is the fact that the senior man isn’t the one being furloughed!! This vacation buyout is for the ones waiting the 100 days to qualify for 2025 vacation. Y’all that are saying “wait for the furlough you’ll get more” don’t understand, if the senior man waits for the furlough he is sc--wing the junior man that may be able to hang in if the senior man goes. Mass layoff is 3 to 4 months of pay with healthcare. If it’s not a mass layoff, you get the five days with healthcare.

Don’t take it. Just Waite for the layoff. You will get 3 to 4 months of pay with health care. If you take the early out, you don’t get squat but your vacation for 2024 and 2025. You make more money with the layoff package.

What layoff package? You mean the 5 days pay, and 3 months of healthcare?

This is the forms they’re passing out in Houston. In 14 years I have never seen anything like this. This is definitely a new railroad.
