Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

I have a feeling I'm being driven to quit

I'm not the only one who feels this way in my group. In the past several months, micromanaging and negative comments have both increased drastically. My boss never used to behave this way, which makes it even stranger. It's like he received a directive to make our lives as miserable as possible. Am I just being paranoid?

Post ID: @bmuj+1qXeNSb6 Yes this is true. Employers will use employees' debt and obligations as a we-pon and leverage against the employees. Also, posting pictures on social media about the new furniture, house, car, vacations etc. you bought only tells people and Employers about your debt and obligations.

Post ID: @bdol+1qXeNSb6 Yes, correct and thank you. Additionally, I would add and advise to avoid or redirect conversations about our personal lives in the workplace. I remember a former Employer/Manager saying to a coworker who just returned from maternity leave, he was happy she had a baby because that means she has or will have debt. He's correct. In other words, the minute Employers know you have debt, bought a house, car, have children etc., Employers know they have you by the A$$ because now, you're dependent on the Employers. You need a job and will do just about anything to try to keep your Job. I've always avoided talking about myself at work. I also do Not and did Not have any framed pictures of relatives or friends on my desk. My desk is Spartan. Your Employer and Coworkers are Not your friends or allies.

As other posters already mentioned, people are scared, confused. angry, paranoid etc., about Citi's Layoffs. People have all kinds of emotions primarily because they have a lot of debt and obligations including but Not limited to: Families to feed, a mortgage, car payments, insurance payments, health insurance, medical bills, credit card bills, possibly even student loans, etc.. Hopefully a Mass Layoff Not just at Citi, but at any Employer will finally motivate people to control their debt and obligations. Don't go out to lunch or dinner as often and take your leftover home food to work for lunch. Stop your Starbucks Coffee trips and drink the Citi coffee because it's free. Don't buy houses, cars and vacations you can Not afford. In conclusion, live and spend below your means.

There are threads on this site about Not letting Citi to force or manage you out to quit voluntarily. Let Citi Lay you off, pay you Severance, WARN Act money (60 or 90 days depends on USA State you're in), money for unused vacation days, other benefits, etc.. By forcing you to quit on your own, Citi saves money. Since Citi is Fvcking you, you need to fight fire with fire and Fvck Citi back. Also, paying out Severance etc. further hits Citi's stock price and contributes to Citi's decline because Severance and Layoff costs decrease Citi's Net Income. If Employees are being thrown out and treated like Trash and go down a black hole, Employees must take Citi down with them !

I'm @5vms+1qXeNSb6. You're welcome @5lwa+1qXeNSb6 ! I've been thinking over things the last couple of months and realized what I posted myself. I too was beating myself up and analyzing everything I've said or done. It was impacting my health and something finally clicked in place for me. I thought I'd share here and it's so nice to hear that it helped you.

@5vms+1qXeNSb6.. you made me feel so light. People can come up with made up reason to CTA and ding you. It’s not your fault. Till now, I was sitting and thinking what I did I do wrong and what could I have done differently and that was stressful. Instead I am saying this to myself- this will not bother me. Thank you.

@3ood+1qXeNSb6 Exactly! I don't trust anything my manager or his manager says. You are correct. A ton of CYA and ultimate survivor reality tv show is what this company has unfortunately turned into. Things that used to bother me don't anymore since they could lay someone off for any made up reason. I'm done with stressing over things. I just shrug and say whatever. Lol.

Quiet cutting is a real thing and it exists at Citi. Two factors at play, Layoffs which puts everyone in CYA mode with self preservation makes everyone competitive for survival, and the obvious fact that it's cheaper to get you to quit or manage you out than it is to pay you severance. This slow moving train is by design. Set the ship on fire and let the rats jump. Don't fool yourself that you and your manager were ever friends. There is no loyalty when it comes to a paycheck. Your manager is under the same threat as you and probably in a frantic mode to make themselves look valuable. And in the end, the work doesn't go away. People scrambling to save their jobs will just be left doing the additional work of the folks that are gone.

@1mvo+1qXeNSb6, True, chasing teams for approvals all the time and getting blamed for blockers is out of control these days and when you sp-t truth on the email chain, nobody wants to reply.

Either you are being pushed out or you have a toxic manager. Either are possible at Citi. Toxic management and terribly poor culture is the reason why it will never succeed and its core problem. Is your manager called Ajit by any chance?

@1npj+1qXeNSb6 I agree 100%. I think I have pretty much given up on trying to do what they hired me to do. Too much status quo, CMA, and selfishness. I only have a great day now when I logoff for the day and leave work behind. Lol. Unfortunately, work is just the grind and nothing more right now.

I feel like this too. No one talks to anyone anymore. Yes. People are in survival mode, CMA, and every man/woman/etc/ for themselves mode. Folks are treating their work like it's the ring in Lord of the Rings. It's a weird time. I just do my work the best i can and go ghost silent. No extra hours and only enough work not to get fired. There's nothing I can do about the roadblocks, my block head managers, unresponsive teams, projects on hold, etc. Tired of stressing over this messy situation tbh.

when food is scarce people tend to switch behavior to survival mode. most are in survival mode right now trying to build up ownership. lowly people like me get bread crumbs and maybe get water. only lucky to have something and worth losing dignity. no courage to get out.

If you don’t have another job, don’t quit let them pay you to leave like I did. A few years ago when I got into an argument with my manager and she told me that I had other options. I told her I wasn’t going anywhere and she can lay me off any time. Needless to say two years later I was laid off.

It is a reflection of him not you. I would say focus on what you can control and put your energies on something that will help you go to your ideal job.
